He's farting words for the sake of it, or so it seems.

Say the minimum and do the maximum work would be my advice

I have a feeling SOD will never win a popularity contest no matter what success he may bring.

He's a strange one and no mistake. Doesn't seem to like the media (who does, but in his job it kinda goes with the territory). He often either says too little, and occasionally, too much.

If he gets the squad to gel, gets City winning games and playing attractive football to boot, he will be popular enough

That's what I feel, even if he does succeed with us, there's no bond with the fans like it was with GJ, it will feel like a "them and us" type of scenario, and sadly if we lose the first few games fans will question him.

Except one fan of course, who will still think he is Christ our saviour the 3rd, who is the greatest manager since brian clough.

I get that impression too but if it means and brings success then who cares. Since GJ we haven't really stuck by a manager long enough for them to build a bond with the fans. If he wins promotion this year the bond will grow and he will probably interact with us more.............. Maybe

Might that be because they've all been p*ss poor by comparison ever since ?

One of them should never have been approached in the first place, one wasn't qualified or inspirational enough to do the job, and one was out of his depth and out of money to spend as well.

Coppell was one of the most sought after managers in the game when we landed him. Based on his credentials he could have probably managed in the Premier League if he wanted. I still don't buy that he left of his own accord. I reckon the board interfered and that he was promised things he didn't get.

Millen was a cheap option, but he wasn't all bad. He had some good ideas, and signed Brett Pitman. I think the board and players failed Millen more than him failing us. I'm glad to hear that he's doing well with Crystal Palace, and I'm sure he's an integral part of their coaching staff.

McInnes was a strange selection, because he wasn't even a cheap option. He had some good ideas, and he was a lot more outgoing to the press than our previous batch of managers. However, I think he grossly underestimated the strength of the league. Top that off with a lack of money and yet more board interference and it was a recipe for disaster.

I'd rate the appointment of SOD as quite high, but again it's entirely down to how the board and the players treat him.

Coppell had a good reputation and record at Palace but bottled it big time at Man City and did so again with us.

If the rumours are to be believed he never applied for the managers job with us in the first place, and once he had been approached and had accepted the position, he then finds that behind his back the owner has signed David James who Coppell did not want. He feels (quite rightly) that his position and authority has immediately been compromised and walks away.

Millen should only ever have been a temporary appointment and was too close to a lot of the players. Again if rumours are to be believed, cracking open the lagers and having a good old laugh on the team bus home from Blackpool after a 5-0 panning is not exactly professional conduct and he was also clueless when in front of the media.

I think a lot of us had high hopes for Del and the first couple of home results last season were almost too good to be true. As time went by we discovered they were.

I also rate SOD quite highly from his time in charge of Bournemouth and Doncaster, he wasnt at Forest long enough to draw a conclusion on, but this is a different challenge again with no disrespect to either of the two small clubs he's managed.

Expectations will always be high here because of the size of the city and because what it could be with the right stadium, team, and manager in place but we've had so many let downs and false dawns over the years it's hardly surprising we can be cynical.

Aside from 4 years in the 1970's when we were beating the likes of Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool for fun in the top flight, and a trip to Wembley in 2008 where we lost to Hull, and 2 LC Semi Final's with 18 years between them. there has been precious little else to rejoice in over my 44 years of following City. Yes we won the Freight Rover at Wembley and the Tin Pot Cup in Cardiff but there have been a lot more downs than ups.

So, the jury is out on SOD for me as BCFC Manager. If he proves me wrong and we have a good season then I shall be delighted.

Let's face it, sustained success is long overdue in this part of footballs backwater.

As a city yes we have, but in terms of football dont tar the blue few with the same brush as us.

We've had very little to cheer about granted, whereas they've had absolutely nothing at all to celebrate !!!!

    Both massive underachievers.
i have always maintained with the right backing this club could be big.many players know this as do football fans around the country.
