Good spot terry The players who have scored 30+ goals in a English Premier League season are:Andy Cole (Newcastle United, 1993-94, 34 goals), Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers, 1995-96, 31 goals), Kevin Phillips (Sunderland, 1999-00, 30 goals), Thierry Henry (Arsenal, 2003-04, 30 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United, 2007-08, 31 goals).
SKP, Any Cole, Dwight Yorke and the knacker Saha..... See what i'm getting at... Only SKP, has done well at SAFC.
Funny when KP got the 30 gaols for us in 1999/2000 season...Shearer had just said it would never be done again in the premiership....w*****r!!! haha
10-15 which for 6m is good. Hoping for a good overall season from him overall, assists, holding the ball up etc. Certainly has the physical presence
In most cases the strikers all had a partner that they fed off; SKP/SNQ, Cole/Beardsley, Shearer/Sutton, Ronaldo/Rooney.
Darren Fletcher has confirmed he expects to miss the start of Manchester United's season as he continues his recovery from a bowel operation. The 29-year-old Scotland captain was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis five years ago and underwent surgery in January. Fletcher was out of action for nine months before making his return in September of last year but he only managed three games in November and then two brief substitute appearances. And when asked when he would return to action, Fletcher, who last played for United on Boxing Day, said: "Hopefully, not too long after the start of the season. I think I will just miss the beginning of the season. "I've had it for five years but really struggled to control it for the last three years. It's had a big impact on my day-to-day life, never mind trying to play football. "Medication wasn't helping me but surgery was the only solution if I wanted to have not only a future playing football but even a quality of life going forward." Despite the disappointment of missing the start of the forthcoming campaign, Fletcher remains in good spirits and says he is progressing exactly as has been planned. "It's all going well," he said. "I am still under the hands of the medical team just now, and the surgeon who is looking after me. Everything is going to plan so far and I am not that far away now. "I am doing exercise on my own. I've not been given the green light to join in contact in football training but I am doing my own running and physical activities and feel great. "Hopefully, in the next few weeks I am going to get the green light to join in and to start making the comeback, which is looking very good." Sorry folks, couldnt resist lol.
Thought the same when I read the text. Man U, Man U Man U, Aresenal, Chelsea ............we did get a mention mind.
Stephen Fletcher will miss the start of our season imo. He is playing no part in pre season and will not be ready until September at the earliest to be selected but will be nowhere near match fitness. Thats why we need another striker in unless one of Wickham or Ji can step up to the plate? I doubt whether either can and Sess is simply NOT a striker. We are missing the LB and another pacy striker imo. Might be light a RB if this Peruzzi injury proves worse than being reported?
Cest, I still think CW and Ji are outward bound and don't figure in PDC's plans, so another striker must be coming in. My money's on Ji being sold and CW going out on loan to a championship side.
I'd go with this like. Connor certainly can't afford stay with us, he needs games and goals and there's too much at stake for us to play him imo. Sheff Wed want him back. Loan would do me nicely.
Paolo Di Canio says Steven Fletcher is making progress from his ankle injury but is unlikely to be fit for the start of the season.
Looks like he'll be back sooner then expected! http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport...hands-sunderland-huge-fitness-boost-1-5949288
Aye, good news its in the echo aswell STEVEN FLETCHER is doubling his efforts to return to full fitness after being ruled out of Sunderland’s entire pre-season campaign. Fletcher has been on the sidelines since March after injuring ankle ligaments on international duty with Scotland before undergoing surgery on the problem. But last season’s top scorer is making progress on the comeback trail, in his bid to add to Paolo Di Canio’s attacking options. Fletcher is now running unhindered and is undergoing double training sessions at the Academy of Light to bring his fitness up to scratch. That progress tallies with the timescale envisaged for Fletcher’s return after he was originally earmarked to be out for 16 weeks, if he required an operation. Saturday’s Premier League opener against Fulham will come far too early for the 26-year-old and the £12million frontman may have to wait until the conclusion of next month’s international break before being back in first-team contention. But the sight of Fletcher back on the training pitch is a welcome one for Di Canio, who told the Echo last month that he was pleased with the former Wolves man’s progress. “There is a big improvement,” said Di Canio. “We are very happy with his progress and we are waiting for him.” With Fletcher sidelined for the curtain-raiser against the Cottagers, summer signing Jozy Altidore is likely to partner Stephane Sessegnon in attack at the weekend. But Fletcher’s return will give Di Canio options, with Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-won and academy product Mikael Mandron also available. Sunderland continue to be linked with further recruits up front, despite Di Canio repeatedly stressing his focus is on landing a creative midfielder and a left-back. The Black Cats are mooted to have made an enquiry to take Juventus’ Italian international Fabio Quagliarella on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent move next summer. And reports in Italy yesterday suggested Sunderland have made a £2.5million approach to sign Lazio striker Sergio Floccari, who is in the final year of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico. At 31 though, Floccari doesn’t fit the profile of players Sunderland have targeted this summer, with new director of football Roberto De Fanti eager to land recruits who have the potential to be developed. http://m.sunderlandecho.com/sport/s...n-fitness-after-long-injury-lay-off-1-5949468
its not just being fit its being up to speed and ready to go, it will take him a good few months to get match ready
But it'll be sooner then what we thought. He should hopefully be up to speed after our ****e run of hard games.
I'm just pleased there hasnt been any set backs, was starting to get worried with all these strikers being linked that there was something up
