HULL City managing director Nick Thompson has played down any fears that the club is about to be renamed. Fans have grown increasingly worried that the club is about to be rebranded as Hull City Tigers, having seen various examples of the name used in official club marketing. But, speaking on tonight’s edition of SportsTalk on Radio Humberside, Thompson was adamant that there is no ‘grand plan’ to change the name which the club has had for the past 109 years. When asked if there was a plan to change the club’s name, he said: “No. The business name was changed this year to Hull City Tigers. “We never talk about Hull City AFC, we talk about Hull City, we talk about the Tigers, we talk about black and amber. “In terms of the football club, it is Hull City and it is an associated football club. In terms of the business, the business is Hull City Tigers. “Most companies will have the name of the business entity which owns the company on the building, that’s what we have done at the training ground. “If we talk about football-related things, it’s Hull City. If we talk about business-related items, it’s Hull City Tigers. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Mana...denies-plans/story-19525971-detail/story.html I personally think it's a non story!
I've just put a comment on there 'If it's not related to the actual football side of the business, then why is it on the gates of the training ground?'
Do you think they might say, read the article? It doesn't mean it's not bollocks, but you can't say the point wasn't raised and answered.
I personally think it smacks of someone desperately seeking a flimsy excuse to seek your exact response. The more he speaks the more fishy it gets. At first a few weeks ago I raised a wry smile at this, now it looks real. I've not heard him give one valid excuse as to why they have given the business a separate name. If it's non-football related then how does it relate to our club? EVERYTHING we do is football related.
I posted this on the main name change thread about 25 minutes ago. Just sayin'... Anyway, I'm not sure what to make of it. I don't feel satisfied.
This subject proves one again that you are wrong for having an opinion which isn't exactly the same as someone else's. I hope the interview shuts people up for a bit.
The business entity is Hull City Tigers Limited...NOT HULL CITY TIGERS........what does it say on the ****ing gates ???
"Most companies will have the name of the business entity which owns the company on the building, that’s what we have done at the training ground" This is ridiculous, he could apply the same answer to everything our names written on....and hed be right, most companies would have the name on the building/website/correspondence/shirt It doesnt make sense to me and seems very much like they are rebranding so the whole world will eventually see us as hull city tigers, but saying to us the football team is still called hull city afc
Im just sharpening my pitchfork up, want me to text you when its all pointy and ready for some stabby time?
I support Hull City AFC whether or not they are the tigers, hull city, hull city tigers. It's the team/club I support that play in black n amber at the KC Stadium. I think a lot of people are really making a big thing out of this. A lot of people have no business sense which is what this is all about. I'll give you an example; I run one of the largest independent weather networks second to the metoffice/bbc (for now). We originally started out as UK Weather Forecast, then we re-branded to UKWF. We operate as UKWF LTD but we refer to ourselves as UK Weather Forecast. Our main image which is our large Facebook page is under the name of UK Weather Forecast - We have over 64,000 likes. It's the same for hull city. We are Hull City AFC, but they run the business under the name "Hull City Tigers" this does not mean they are re-branding the clubs name. Just a change in the LTD company/business side of things. I think this is where the problem lies, most of the public with very little or 0 business sense or experience understand this. Time to move on, accept there isn't a massive re-branding coming in to play, and support the bloody club for what will be a roller-coaster of a season being back in the premier league.
There could be a number of reasons, the most likely ones that I think are below; - They have owned the domain name hullcitytigers.net since June 2001 (which makes that just over 12 years ago) this would have been done to protect their brand online. - Mr Allam who saved us from becoming non existent has invested heavily (we all know that) he has wanted to put his stamp on the business he has invested so heavily in so has renamed the trading name. * Personal thing, this is the reason I think is behind it. - Online rebranding for marketing and merchandise sales around the world (Asia). One of them three reasons above. I tell you one reason/option that is out of the question and that is a complete re-brand because it suites the Allams and he wants to p1ss everyone off in Hull and destroy the clubs history.
Owning a domain name is not a valid reason to change. Ego is not a valid reason to change. This reason you think most likely is the most worrying one of all. How would creating a different name to the team name people see in the results and on TV every week increase marketing opportunities?
Not a significant change but a change that sparked concern/questions from our members. That's the thing you see, not everyone likes change, with change people think about the negatives and they don't take a step back and think about it in a business perspective. Mr Allams best interest is the club pushing forward and becoming a force in the premier league, providing his loyal fan base with the best of everything. He has delivered on so much already, he saves us from bankruptcy, paid all of our debts off and then invested heavily not only in a good squad of players many of which are young, talented and no doubt hold a fantastic future but he also brought in a fantastic manager. And now we are in the premier league! I really think people are making a big deal of this.
On the grounds Nick Thompson explained the name change as being a company rebrand and many people don't see his argument as credible, I reckon the subject header on this thread is desperate and misleading. Nick Thompson and the board have lost a lot of credibility with such a mealy mouthed response.
