Do you think as fans we get hung up too much on the idea of a 20 goal a season striker? Statistics from the Premier League era are quite interesting: http://hitrowz.com/2013/07/14/the-myth-of-the-20-goal-a-season-forward/
Yes I agree. I've said that if bony gets 12 goals this season that will be a job well done, to expect strikers to hit over 20 is the exception rather than the rule in the prem league IMO
I would say 20 goals is the target for a striker playing for a top 4 chasing side and Liverpool. From there down, around the 15 goal mark is a great return.
If you think about how many strikers in the goal scoring charts hit over 20 it's completely unrealistic to talk about signing a 20 + goal scoring striker!
"if Bony gets 12 goals this season that will be a job well done". If you remember Norway,Danny Graham was ridiculed by some on here, and he got 14. Bony getting 12 would be fine as long as two or three others also get double figures. Should Bony get his 12 and nobody else gets many, then we will be in trouble.
all premiership strikers aim for the 20+ goal mark but like libertarian says if you only have the one player to score the goals then if he don't make 20 then you will find the team struggling....goals must come from everywhere and anywhere and i believe we have that ability this season...
Last season we scored 47 goals altogether in the PL of which Michu scored 18 so basically the team scored nearly double the goals Michu scored. Which shows how much a highish scoring striker is needed otherwise the team in general need to find another 15+ goals between them! It's lovely to find a 20+ goal scorer but there aren't that many players who will score 20+ goals every season in the PL. If Bony scores 15+ I'll be delighted.
I expect Bony to score 14-15 goals this season if he can avoid injuries and I think Michu will end up around 12-13 goals. Even thoug he'll play his favorite position I think he will be more focused feeding Bony.
20+ has got to be the aim for bony and he is capable, michu 12-15 from midfield should be a breeze. shelvey will get 10+.....we have the goals in us this season i feel but i hope our defence is up to scratch as i really would like to see a couple of tall defenders added to the squad before the season starts, and we know we have two of the best keepers in the premiership as our last line of defence anyway...I do favor tremmell to vorm though as he is taller and better with high balls delivered into the box....but thats just my opinion...
People get way too carried away with the number a striker scores. I personally prefer to look for the value of each goal he scores. Relatively unimportant to get a late brace when you're already 3-0 up against ten men at home but an away winner in a 1-0 is huge. All about the value, both direct and indirect, of the goals they get for me
Gutted you guys got Bony ahead of us (NUFC) think you're right, Bony double figures and if Michu can do the same you'll be well on your way to another good season.
yes I remember very well Vetch, same as people thought Routledge was a waste of money and that kemy and dobbie was the answer to everything etc, etc. Any lower half team can expect 10-15 goals from a striker if they expect to stay up, DG did a great job in his first season getting us 12 prem goals, while Bony is a step up in class from DG its still wrong to expect too much IMO. He is settling into a new league and different culture and nobody is sure how all of that will affect him,he also has to carry the burden of being our most expensive player, something which adds pressure so I think for him ot get 12 prem goals (its prem goals I was referring too not all competittions) will be a decent return . If he ends up with 20 then all credit to him, but he will then be off to another team IMO !!
