Is this treatment of a former double player of the year fair?

Phil Bardsley on his way out of Sunderland after being abandoned while players fly to Italy for training camp
    14 Jul 2013 15:22 Daily Mirror

Former Manchester United defender has been left on British soil to train with the kids - in response to bizarre casino antics?
Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio humiliated Phil Bardsley – by leaving him to train with the kids when Sunderland left for a training camp in Italy this week.

There seems no way back for the Black Cats defender after he was pictured flat out, covered in £50 notes at a casino.

Bardsley joined Sunderland in 2008 from Manchester United and has made 167 appearances, but now it seems his time on Wearside is up.

Di Canio is ready for a summer shake-up of his squad and is listening to offers for players - including Stephan Sessegnon.

Hull’s Steve Bruce is keeping an eye on his old club with Bardsley, Jack Colback and Lee Cattermole up for grabs.

Now I'm an unashamed fan of Bardo (although I accept his limitations as a player not his heart) and find the treatment of him very poor tbh. I think he deserves better than this for one costly error in judgement (and he didn't exactly do anything that bad imo) and feel PDC is victimising the lad which is uncalled for. Okay if he has decided to move him on that's acceptable but to humiliate the lad after 5 cracking years here and some wonderful performances?

I think thats very poor on the managers part personally.

Seems a bit ott if true and i find it hard to believe actually, probably training with the kids whilst his move away is being finalised, who else is there to train with atm?

I think it's fair enough. Young British and British based footballers seem to turn into utter ****s and an example being made of someone who acted completely unprofessionally is a lesson.

We were in a relegation battle at the end of last season, we had nothing to celebrate. People should have got their heads down and had their fun at the end of the season.

I thank the lad for what he's done for the club but his time is up. I hope Di Canio continues to take a hard line with this sort of silliness.

Who's to say it was one costly error in judgement? May have been a pattern of behavior with the casino incident the final straw. No one really knows.

Think there's been stuff behind scenes we don't know about. Reckon Bardsley probably argued with pdc.

I'm sorry but your description of Bardsley as a '****' is not one I either share or agree with. In fact I'd say it was one of the ****tiest things I have read on these pages for many a month and you should be ashamed of the words mate?

I am ashamed for you anyway?

    This ^^

To me seeing that pic of Bardsley was like him saying ' Hey you fans are paying me for absolute dross i'm serving up while we're in a relagation fight'
scored a couple of screamers but when the times got tough i found out who the real phil bardsley was.. Just my opinion

He is the worst player in the equad now imo.

I couldnt care less if he gives 100%, that should be the bare minimum from any player.

The sooner he is out of the club the better.

    100% of **** is still ****.

I didn't say he was a ****. I said young players turn into ****s. Bardsley is anything but a young player now.

I said Bardsley was someone who acted completely unprofessionally. I like Bardo but he showed his arse that night and it was never going to go unpunished. by a disciplinarian like Paolo.

I'd be ashamed if I was you too mate because, clearly, I struggle to read as a middle aged man. So as for what I said being the ****tiest thing you've read on the forum for many a month... It wasn't there to ****ing read.

Bardsley was a loyal servant for years, twice player of the year and always gave 100%. This really is shoddy treatment for one error, if only Bramble was given one chance during his time.
Reflects poor on the club if true, and people saying there is probably more to it are simply hearing what they want to hear.

It's time to move him on but with a bit of dignity.

And to add, people forget the pressure that is on the team, and I would of had a blow out if I was in his shoes, only no one would have photographed me pissed.

That's the difference between responsible and otherwise. If you're going to do it, don't do it in public. Makes a mockery of the team and the situation we were in. Bardo will do well wherever he goes, he's not going to suffer too much as a result of this.

It's Paolo stamping his authority on the club and letting people know it's not acceptable to be getting ****ered 3 days before matches.

F*** dignity and f*** bardsley. He has been put out to dry and rightly so.
Like others have posted, i just hope this treatment is consistent for every player that acts like bardsley did
Lets not forget we still had a game to go at spurs, we had a significant amount of injuries and suspensions and bardsley should have been in bed resting to train hard and "impress" on the new manager. He didnt, he went out, got balddered and got found out !

I think he served us well . Dont know what the reason is to move him on . If it is just the casino incedent then yes it is piss poor by pdc .
I would have thought there was more to it than that . I wish him well and thank him for his service to the club .
When I say more to it I just don`t think he fits into pdc plans for one reason or another .

I'm with you on this DD. All of us don't actually know the in's and out's of the club but maybe pdc smelt something fishy in bardo and that incident was the icing on the cake.. Anyway if that's true then i'm all for the cause, think we''ll have enough to cover for him come fulham :cheesy:

We are not going to be a team of players who get pissed, and disrespect fans by lying in a pool of cash. If Paolo were to go back on what he believes, it would set a bad example, and that's the last thing Paolo wants. So unfortunately for Bardo, he is the example that's being made. He will serve as a reminder for all those that come after him that we are professional, we don't tolerate substandard antics off the pitch, or on it. And as a fan, I love that.

Completely ****ed up how Di Canio has handled this the club should be ashamed. IMO Di Canio is been a bully and throwing his weight about with Bardo to show the rest he's the Big I am indicative of hid playing and management style same reason he wants rid of Catts as he'd have the balls to stand up to this bully!

If, and I'm not saying it's not, that can be considered bullying; Fergie bullied people in the same way. Didn't work out too badly for him.

Yes let's not put up with this behavior, just think 3 players nearing or out of contract are being made examples of.

One mistake and your out. Hope our new signings don't put one foot wrong or we could be writing off a lot of money.
