His journey is both unique and compelling - you will never read another story like his. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Product Details Paperback: 356 pages Publisher: Beaten Track Publishing (May 15 2013) Language: English ISBN-10: 1909192279 ISBN-13: 978-1909192270 Product Dimensions: 2 x 13.1 x 20 cm Shipping Weight: 340 g http://www.amazon.ca/A-Cockneys-Jou...tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1373801906&sr=1-6 Book Description Publication Date: Oct 1 2007 Eddie Allen was born into a South London family and was much the black sheep of the family from the outset. While his brothers and sisters enjoyed a typical childhood in sixties Peckham and Old Kent Road, Eddie endured beatings with bicycle chains, table legs and his fathers bare fist. But eddies remarkable cockney spirit shone through and he survived the abuse with remarkable dignity and humour. One cold November evening when Eddie is just eleven years old, he receives a good beating from his father and then is locked in his bedroom for the night; not even allowed to leave the room to use the bathroom. This night is the catalyst in eddies journey. A vision of his dead grandfather appears during the night and thus begins a lifetime of visits from spirits, both good and evil. The spirit of eddies grandfather becomes his constant guardian and he helps Eddie as he struggles with various obstacles thrown at him by his topsy-turvy world. Eddie has never told his story before and now, aged fifty, he tells of his violent upbringing and reflects on how a strong belief in spiritualism has guided him through the difficulties of his childhood into adulthood, his marriage and fatherhood at sixteen, his spell in prison, his exploits in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the struggle to find work and his life-long battle with evil spirit, Tyzak, who has travelled many life times in search of Eddie. This is a remarkable insight into how a man copes with a troubled past and his encounters with spirits from both the physical and metaphysical worlds.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Product Details Paperback: 336 pages Publisher: Trafford Publishing (Oct 1 2007) Language: English ISBN-10: 1425124410 ISBN-13: 978-1425124410 Product Dimensions: 22.4 x 15 x 2 cm Shipping Weight: 431 g
Cheers Kilburn, trafford are a crafty lot! I sent the manuscript to a few publishers and Decided to go with beatentrack and now there listing it, not for long though. Beatentrack are sueing them for copyright infringement. Enjoy the read mate, my next book will be out in a few months.
Hi Eddie - Did Trafford have your manuscript back in 2007, as they indicate in the publishing date? Wow, the next book almost ready - you're prolific - another JK Rowling in the works? Rowling has led a "rags to riches" life story, in which she progressed from living on state benefits to multi-millionaire status within five years. She is the United Kingdom's best-selling author since records began, with sales in excess of £238m Any other good dog picks coming up (like Blonde Snapper) to help pay for summer vacation cottage in August? I was also on board with Alien Planet ($10 win/place @ 50/1) - in for a penny in for a pound! My father (1916-93) growing up in London had an Uncle Arthur who incidently was a Rosicrucian and could recall a former life in Egyptian Pharaoh times - according to Dad, his favourite expression was "if you haven't got the cards you can't play".
Interesting Kilburn, just been doing a bit of research on the rosicrucians secret Society, they claim there not relgious but operate from the church! from what Ive read so far they appear to be quite spiritual and believe in universal law and Metaphysical world's. Im gonna spend some time finding stuff out about this cult. Id be interested in your uncle Arthur if you got any info?
It is very kind of you to say so, finding sufficient time is the real problem, but this is about Eddie. Out of interest mate, how long do you reckon this took you?
12 Months Roller, it was a hard slog! When I reached chapter 8 I was stressed out big time, I just wanted to finish the book. In the end I took 4 months off work and did it. My second book is almost done, about 4 weeks work left on that. My first book had 590, 000 words!
Hi Eddie - I've PM'd you on Uncle Arthur. This link is interesting on the Rosicrucians (sounds a bit like your travels - and mine). http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2225/what-is-rosicrucianism-all-about The Fama tells the story of one Christian Rosencreutz who, as a young man, wandered through the Near East learning the mystical wisdom of the Arabs and Egyptians and finding much enlightenment there. Upon returning to Germany he attempted to share this knowledge but was laughed at and shunned. He and a few like-minded people formed a society called the Fraternity of the Rose Cross, building a temple called the Spiritus Sanctus. There were only eight members at the beginning; all men, all bachelors and all virgins. The agreement among them was simple: 1.They should profess only to be healers and act in that capacity whenever requested for no payment 2.They would have no uniform or habit but would adopt the customs of the country where they lived 3.They would meet once a year at the Spiritus Sanctus, or send a note excusing their absence 4.Each person should find someone to be his successor 5.The letters "C.R" would be their seal and mark, and 6.The fraternity would remain secret for 100 years.
Having spent the weekend away, I had plenty of time to sit and read on my private balcony while my wife frightened little children in the swimming pool. I've finished Warnock's book, which was interesting, and I'm about 8 chapters into Eddie's, which is riveting. I can't say that I had a happy childhood, but compared to Eddie's it was a picnic. Eddie I admire for you writing about it (I hope it was cathartic) and am so impressed by the way you cover these events so positively. As for being a South London builder with no literacy skills, you can forget that, it is a great read. I urge everyone to buy a copy.
Warnock's book just arrived, Eddie's is en route - just need Rebel's other art related book to complete my summer reading schedule - unfortunately in Canada I cannot order from Amazon.co.uk
Where in canada are you Kilburn? I'm happy to pick up a copy for you and route myself through Toronto to Indianapolis if we can figure out a way to hand over the goods. Next trips are weeks of 19 August and 16 September.
Thanks very much for the kind offer - I'm in Atlantic Canada (Maritimes), so quite a bit east of Toronto. I'm sure that Amazon.ca (like Eddie's book) will eventually list this one.
Roller have you finished my book? What do you think mate? I would appreciate your honest opinipn mate...
Work has prevented me finishing as yet Eddie, but I'm still enjoying your book. Picking my words carefully, you are just returning from Saudi having had quite an experience out there; it is interesting to know that some Moroccan's have no qualms about getting stuck in! A couple of things come to mind. Firstly, you've not wasted your life have you?. And secondly I always wonder why I bother trying to write as there are so many people better at it than me. Come and join us for a beer sometime this season mate, the Crown ans Sceptre is no where near a Travis Perkins!!!! You will need to read to read Eddie's book to understand why.....
