Playing decent football, getting good wins against some of the big boys, and another successful campaign, hopefully finishing anywhere from 8th to 12th in the Premier League. Yours?
My opinion, for what it's worth: All Saints fans are different, but they all support Saints. Ask any of us why we support Saints and we'll all have different reasons. Ergo, any 'Honest Description' of Southampton Football Club is bound to be coloured by personal experience. My honest description is that we are a constantly evolving club, with players and management who want to work for each other, with no obvious prima donnas who are 'too big for this club'. Because other teams got there first in terms of winning trophies, leagues etc, other teams' fans will question our credentials and our right/ability to remain in the Premier League. However, the mere fact that other fans would seek to deride us and our ambition surely shows that they are actually rather worried about us, and our ability to do well. Having said that, as long as Saints' wins are described as 'surprise victories', we will remain unimportant in the eyes of others. If we storm the league and win by 20 points it will be described as a fluke that could never be repeated, rather than a true reflection of our worth. In short, then, Southampton Football Club is my club, the one I have always supported (since 1969, if you're asking) and will remain so, whatever other fans and/or neutrals think/believe.
Modern fans make the mistake of thinking that nothing changes, whereas many once big clubs are in the lower leagues. Man City (always a largish club in support) have only been true contenders recently in the modern era. Same for Chelsea. What I find interesting is that Nicola has decided (from outside the football world) that he could get a club up to the top in the right manner. Yes, we are spending money, but not in a scattergun way that Chelsea and City have. That is the way to win a title quickly, but with lots of wasted money and the problem of how do you stay at the top. Blackburn won the title with money spent, but then what happened. Nicola wants to build a team that plays in an entertaining way but with a strong spine and ethos that survives players coming and going. Do I think we will win the title...no. Do I think we could displace teams like Spurs at the top table...yes. Nicola may be tough at negotiating and firing managers, but I also think we are still a nice team with a good relationship between players and the community.
Oh **** off And not that I need to justify myself to you, but I actually work for Pompey Ladies which is why I'm iinterested in them so shut the **** up. I am sick and tired of your ****ing crass neanderthalic, trolling. If you don't like women's football, then piss off and ignore any threads/posts about it, rather than acting like a juvenile little troll. Plus, there's just one thread about women's football and the post above was possibly my second post about women's football (outside of the thread) in the last month, so it's hardly an obsession.
Calm down old chap and as they say "Don't get mad get even". I have been on the end of Lord Duckhunter's vitriol in the past but have always refused to get angry. With regards to Pompey women's football keep up the good work. Your fair city desperately needs a successful football team and it looks as if the ladies fit the bill exactly.
You're right of course, Godders, and normally I don't rise to it just it seems to be every blimin' time he posts he's trolling and it just gets tiring sometimes. But thanks for the best wishes.
I have to say I was about to echo Godders words before I read his post..........Most of us knew you had some connection to the Pompey ladies and I am reasonably certain that LD knows that too. Just the same don't bite if you can......leave the redresses to the mods they are more than capable of sorting it. BT
Why does he have to bring up Chick football on every thread? Surely one thread on chick football is enough, or a section on chick football. This thread was about Southampton men's football team, not Portsmouth ladies. Instead of crying to the mods about me, they should be keeping threads like this on topic.
