Sad news. Only fitting that I sign off with this........and it's goodnight from me.... and it's goodnight from him. RIP Alan.
On his Wiki page, it's say he even entered a comp (for a laugh) to see who sounded the most like Alan Whicker.......... He came third . Great, entertaining program's RIP.
A brilliant parody from the masters of parody and a fitting epitaph to a man who brought the world to us at a time when the world was not as accessable to the working class as it is today. And I have just been reading about him entering an Alan Wicker contest and coming 3rd, hillarious, just makes me think why no one else has tried this stunt from todays so called celebrities. R.I.P.
Not exactly a celeb of today but Charlie Chaplin once entered and lost a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest
Anyone heard the Woody Allen stand up routine about the moose?? He knocks a moose over in his car on the way to a fancy dress party. He straps the moose the front of the pick up and carries on. When he gets to the party the moose has woken up, so he lets him come to the party. The moose mingles...... At the end of the night they have a best fancy dress vote, the moose comes in third! The host wins-dressed as a moose!
I remember reading Cerys Matthews entered a "Cerys Matthews sound-a-like karaoke contest" and only came second.
There's a story that David Cameron, when at Eton, won a fancy-dress contest as a performing seal.....
"Whicker was always happy to admit that beautiful women captivated him. In fact he once got into trouble for telling the TV Times, when asked what six objects he would take to a desert island, ‘two blondes, two brunettes and two redheads’ Class was Alan. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2361821/Broadcaster-Alan-Whicker-dies-pneumonia-aged-87.html
Not sure if his series "Journey of a Lifetime" was shown soon after his passing away, and you probably already know, but it was on BBC 4 at 10:00 pm last night. Some classic excerpts from "Wicker's World" etc. Worth watching (BBC Iplayer etc). Short snippet from....Cat's Eye Inventor ..Percy Shaw from Halifax...was a bit shown in last nights episode too.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBb9wwhigCw
