Rickie Lambert, Grant Holt, and Andy Carroll tend to grab the headlines, and although their goals proved pivotal to their respective teamsâ ability to compete in the Premier League, Southampton, Norwich and West Ham each survived because they could rely on goals coming from a range of sources. For Norwich, they arrived from Pilkington and Morison. For Southampton, Rodriguez, Puncheon, Schneiderlin and Ramirez, each contributed more than five goals each. And for West Ham, midfielder Kevin Nolan actually outscored his Geordie teammate with ten Premier League goals. That's one of the conclusions to my Premier League Survival Guide - the final part of which is now live - and just one of the many lessons relevant for Hull City this season. Thanks for reading the other parts, and giving feedback and comments. Have a read of the concluding chapter and let me know what you think. http://hitrowz.com/2013/07/12/premier-league-survival-guide-part-5/
We need strength in depth with our midfield and striking options. I have no idea what we are going to to about a couple of strikers, but in Bruce i trust COYH.
Aluko will score a fair amount. Brady, koren and boyd all capable of 5+ so if we get a st that can grab us 10-15 id say it doesnt look too bad.
We need a 20/30 goal striker. We have our 15 goal per season man with Matty fryatt. McLean is always capable of chipping in with 4 or 5. I think we're already well covered.
I'm looking forward to seeing Aluko in the Premier League, I think he's a class apart. Though I'm concerned that he doesn't seem to be in any of our traning photos. And we still need two more strikers to play alongside him. One of which might come from Spain, allegedly.
While normally it's a valid point, of all the teams to say to that you can't rely on a striker to get your goals we'd probably be the last given our strikers' overall return in the last 4 seasons. (as in we already know that)
Curtis Davies and Figueroa seem more than capable of getting half a dozen between them. Faye a bet for a couple (depending on appearances).
Thank you for your input but far too much analysis here for me. I never dreamed City would be in the big time so can we please be allowed to just enjoy it without us having to go through all the in and outs of survival. That's what the Allams and Brucie are here to do.. My view, for what it's worth is only have players that want to run through brick walls. You can all the ability in the world (Bullard) but if the lazy b*****ds just want the cash then your f****d. We have some great young talent and are far better equipped than last time. COY HHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Interestingly we have an article getting published this weekend setting out why 20 goal a season strikers are essentially mythological. They do exist, but look at the stats - only a handful have ever done it more than once in the Premier League, and there you are talking top top top strikers. Interesting side point - Michael Owen, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona - never got 20 goals in a single Premier League season.
Wonder if Aluko's recovery isn't as quick as Dudge or Fryatt then, perhaps he's been brought back even more slowly. Bruce did say he wants them all back fully-fit but with Aluko they won't be taking any risks I shouldn't imagine.
Just after we gained promotion,Aluko was quoted in the Fail,as saying he would have played in the play offs, had we played in them. I thought this strange,as in the very same issue,Bruce was just hoping Sone would be fit to take part in this pre-season. Did Aluko have no idea,as to how bad his injury was ? Strange but true... What about this Spanish striker then Olm ?
Also worth noting that Andy Johnson scored 20+ goals for Palace the last time they were in the division, and they still went down.
