It's getting ridiculous now, it's obviously too late and he doesn't want to be helped.

Feels like a waste of time and resources, if he wasn't famous then no one would give a ****.

People like Gazza, sadly, are untreatable. They have a number of problems, which, if you try to treat one you will activate another. There is nothing anyone can do. There will be only one eventual outcome - he will self destruct. I hope history will treat him kindly and remember him for his brilliant best rather than his terrible worst.

I do believe he is way beyond help. It really wouldn't surprise me if we wake one and he's died.

I've seen my mum smuggle with depression and what comes with it over 10 years. Its a horrible illness that no one really understands.

He's mentally ill- not some kind of indisciplined joker who does it for a laugh.

    Get well soon Gazza .

There's a rumour going around that Bradley Wiggins has 'lost it' - like in 2004, after the Olympics - and is drinking hard, unable to handle fame and its demands.

Controversial suggestion but maybe he should try ecstasy. Albeit when sober.

Once in a while, just once in a while.

Personally I fear it's way too late for the lad.

    He'll never reach 50.

Just spent some upsetting time with dementia sufferers.I now believe euthanasia should be possible for people who will face suffering and torment.I do not intend letting my kids look after me if I end up in total despair.
IMO a great short life is better than a long one of misery.
Not sure that Gazza is beyond saving.I know a lot of beggars with drink/drug problems and many have died young. Some have got control at least for now.
We are not likely to have the resources to look after alcoholics in a humane way in the future.
    Have a good weekend

    ****in' hell.

Suggesting he's put down like a dog is a bit drastic.

    Is it not?

Everyone likes a drink some more than others. If the press left Gazza alown I think he would sort himself out. I think he does a lot of it for the attention when the fame stops he craves attention. It will be Deano next but he won't get the sun following him so it will go unnoticed

He is now, but he wasn't always. He made some decisions of his own that brought him here, and you are so wrong, some kind of undisciplined joker who does it for a laugh is exactly what he is and what he has always been. I would like to see him progress, but . . .

I think his personality and character may have led him down this path anyway but what revs me off is those utter ****s Evans and Baker. They were so quick to jump on his back to boost their own notoriety and career by riding his fame and embroiling him in all the showbiz stuff, boozy nights and parties. They refer to themselves as close friends but close friends don't behave like that when a brilliant sportsman is at the peak of his abilities, especially if he's a vulnerable and weak character.
I think he's forgotten how to be Paul Gascoigne and all he knows is how to be Gazza.

Steady on there old son. Some people can handle booze and some people can't. When it controls you there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it. One drink is too many and a million not enough. Alcoholics suffer their own private hell day after day after day. Some people can go 'cold turkey' and never drink again but know that it's there in the background 24/7. Read the story of Garrincha one of the greatest footballers who ever lived. Stricken with polio as a child he loved the game of football so much but his feet were that deformed he had to wear a left boot on his right foot and a right boot on his left. This enabled him to be the first to develop the famous 'banana' shot with which he devastated England in a great match long ago. Garrincha died a penniless alcoholic in Brazil where his lifeless body was found in a gutter. Don't ridicule a 'drunk' mate it's like telling someone with a terminal disease that it's THEIR fault. As the adage goes "There, but for the grace of God, go I".
