Swans and Saints appear to be spending 'megabucks' this summer. Time will tell whether it pays off for either club but we, in comparison, have so far spent peanuts. I just hope that PCs tightening of the belt won't backfire on us next season. What do others think?

My view is that if we spend too little this summer and go down next year, it will still be Pulis' fault for overspending and underselling.

PC is a not cash fountain: If we want more money being spent then we should probably greet the Stadium's name-change with no resistance.

i honestly believe that stoke will be one of the teams to go down this season. unless you get some quality in the side then i really cant see you doing well. Its not what you spend its finding quality players that counts and as you have been in the prem for quite a few seasons now you should be able to spend a few bob....I have always liked stoke but i really think you look weak at the moment...good luck..

We have got time yet to strengthen but the team isn't that bad, we just need to create more chances more than anything else.

Yeah, I actually think the personnel are grand, it's just how we use them. Reckon we have enough quality to stay up, but really need a few key signings (left wing, right back, finisher) to push on and get a top half finish

Think Hughes has shown he doesn't know what he is doing when allowed to sign a lot of new players. Good chairmanship to reign him in. Quality over quantity for you guys

I dont know how we look weak as its the same team that has virtually got 50 points each season plus we have pennant back and now a good left back, personally I think we will be stronger next season as as squad

Would love to see a new right back and a nippy little striker. Wonder if Brek Shea will be used on the left wing.

My Premier League Survival Guide shows that spending big has kept Stoke in the Premier League for a number of years, but only because it was aligned to strong leadership, and a clear tactical plan.

You can read more here in this article which sets out why Stoke are an example for other promoted teams to follow.

Let me know what you think.

I'm glad Hughes hasn't gone out splashing the cash yet, I'm sure he's got more targets in mind, but he needs to review what we've got first. Who knows what potential we might have if the players are actually given a chance to play a bit.

Pieters is an interesting signing - a different kind of full back, presumably with the intention of launching different kinds of attacks.

Hughes is still assessing his squad, he will strengthen where required. Sunderland already brought in 8 new faces and to be honest i can see them going down over Stoke!

I could be really insulting here but I have nowt against Stoke but you sure seem to have a problem with my team as your posts over the last couple of years insult us at any opportunity. So, we have signed 7 players to date, 3 for the academy and 4 as outfield players that have been scouted by our new DOF and team. We have an Italian international joining us this week and and Argentine fullback that are very highly rated once again put together by the scouting team and DOF. We will be shedding players (you lot usually buy them) but the whole Safc thing now after finishing 4th bottom last term is about another level. Our chairman is rich but so is yours, our ground & facilities is the best but so are yours. Our ambition for success and for the area is second to none, that's why we have changed things. Now, call us knuckle draggers till whenever but please stop the insults eh? I boxed as an amateur for 12 years all over the world a few years ago and can brag at been in the ring with Hearns, Green, Duran, McKenzie and many others and liken myself now to a calmed down person but to read the constant animosity against my team by you gets my hackles risen. So just lay off eh, it's a forum after all and best wishes for next season.. <ok>

    --- Johnson ---- Sessegnon ---- Giaccherini

    -------------- Fletcher/Altidore -----------

That's already a fantastic forward line!

With the other signings coming in and the ones pending, I think we will be fine this season.

I don't know if Stoke will go down, but they will be there or thereabouts.

    You forgot Norwich!

They have made some class signings and I think they will be fine next season.

we have the players we need at stoke to survive in my opinion and maybe finish in the top 10, any more new signings will cement our squad further
