I would assume the reason we're giving up on Hooper, is that Celtic have told us they're not interested in selling, they seem happy to miss out on £5m if they can keep him for next season. I think we'll go for Le Fondre.
Seems they are getting 12 million for Wanyama. Hooper may still go but may keep him as a calculated gamble and keep their fans happy.
Just heard on talksport reading are planning a 2.5m swoop for charlie austin after he failed his medical with us. If they have the bid accepted for austin, i cant help but feel for that money he is worth a punt still. Admittedly i would not have been happy at the 4.5 m we were about to pay but cant help thinking he would bang in 10 -15 goals at epl level. Do we know what the problem was with his knee and is it totaly ****ed.
Going on what I've read from various sources Hythe I'd say pretty ****ed, but not necessarly terminally, we just wernt willing to take the risk
Maybe Atkins is taking a gamble, that the knee is operable but would mean time out of the game, but unlike us being in the championship he is looking to hopefully the season after when he expects to be back in the EPL. For us this season we cannot afford to buy a player who has a chance of being out for the majority of the coming season.
We won't bid again. It would look very shady if we would bid again and overlook his knee problem. It would look like the whole medical thing was stagged just to bring the price down.
http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1159530/ Interesting comments by Lennon on Hooper possibly wanting to leave for the Prem, which sound reminiscent of Brown's statements to the press when the club wanted to offload Michael Turner. This could suggest Celtic are finally starting to panic about losing him for nothing and a more realistic fee could be on offer.
It say's they are expecting revised bids from Norwich and QPR. I wonder if we'll stick in a revised bid? Hoopers motive is Premier League football and to be nearer Loughton where his family are from. QPR ticks one box, but I don't see them getting promoted next season. Norwich is worse to travel to from anywhere in the country, I can see them having a season of struggle, and us?
To be honest, removing rose tinted glasses, I reckon QPR looks a better prospect than us this. I'm sure they'll get promoted, and their players will have a crack at the prem in a stronger team than ours if they do. Not to mention wages and location.
