would be fantastic if we could get him for decent wages. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11685/8820371? Queens Park Rangers have emerged as contenders to sign Argentine star Javier Saviola, Sky Sports can reveal. A number of British clubs are actively interested in landing the 31-year-old, who is a free agent after deciding to leave Malaga at the end of the season, despite scoring eight goals for the Liga outfit last term. West Ham and Celtic are both believed to be keeping tabs on Saviola, but Harry Redknapp, who has attempted to sign the player on more than one occasion during his career, is now back on his trail. And, despite QPR's relegation to the Championship, he would be keen on helping fire the club back to the Premier League. "Javier is more than keen on linking up with Harry Redknapp, he knows his teams play good football and the chance of helping QPR to promotion is genuinely appealing to him," a source close to the player confirmed to Sky Sports. "Javier's next move is not about the finances, he wants a footballing challenge and England gives him that."
Sshhhhhh. I know hes an old player but he would be good if hes coming for a challenge and not the money. There wont be a fee either and is a huge step up from AJ. Someone get Faurlin on the phone to him.
Is this the same Faurlin that hasn't been rated by our last few managers and has spent most of his time on the bench or being loaned out. Why on earth would he recommend us after all the turmoil he has seen in recent years. Saviola is well past his best and has lost his edge in terms of pace. How you can say yes to him and no to Parker is totally beyond me
Parker is older and £5m more expensive and on 70k a week, also we are already stacked with Midfielders. Faurlin has been injured and was loaned out to get fit.
Flyer Faurlin was loaned out because he was seen as surplus. He's a firm fans favourite and works hard but unfortunately he ain't good enough at the top level. Considering the career Saviola has had, he won't come on the cheap and as I said he's well past his best while Parker is still regarded as one of the top CMs in the country. Don't worry cause he won't come to us anyway.
How can he be well past it when hes younger than Parker? We arent in the top level and Faurlin has already proved himself good enough to be starting in a team that won the league at this level. Yes, it is the Benfica player.
Flyer As you well know, the one position on the pitch where age probably does matter is up front, especially if you rely on pace. Saviola is not the biggest in stature and IMO may struggle in English football. He is still a top player who has had a great career but again IMO, he is looking for one last payday. If he was still at the top of his game then many of the Prem clubs outside the top six would take him. I fear we have gained a reputation for being a soft touch and an easy payday for players looking for one last hurrah. Saviola never wanted to come to the Prem during his prime and had plenty of opportunities. Why on earth would he want to come to us as his final club. It doesn't add up mate. He sees us as a soft touch. You may see this as ridiculous but I'd take a FIT AJ over him any day. When fit, AJ has managed to score consistently. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Hes scored 1 in every 2.5 games over his career in the top level of Argentina, Spain, Portugal and France. He would rip up the NPC and would get us 20 goals. nuts, hes already stated hes coming for the challenge and not the money so theres no need to offer him a huge or long contract. AJ has never scored consistently, he has about 6 goals in 3 seasons. He had one good year that included about 13 pens. Plus hes never fit.
Flyer We're probably not miles apart on this. I would like to see quality/leadership/positive attitude/ experience up the spine of our team. For me, Dunne and Parker would be great signings as they offer all of these key attributes that we have been missing. Adding Saviola to this would be fine. The problem is that we already have 5-6 players who we need to get rid of. Players like Bosingwa, Barton, Ferdinand, Park etc etc All technically good players but players who have not delivered for us despite their previous impressive careers/reputations. You talk about age where I just see poor attitude and a lack of desire. Under no circumstances would I touch a Dunne or a Parker or a Saviola until we offload some more of our dead wood. We need to buy leaders. We need to strengthen our spine and despite all the midfielders we have, we badly need a midfield general.
This is the 3rd pre season in a row we've now been linked with him! While nothing is impossible, it is highly improbable that we will sign him. Sounds like another lazy story, as soon as you read "a source close to the player", you know it's b****cks.....
Faurlin and Jenas are more than good enough to run the midfield. We need forwards without offloading anyone, BZ and AJ will be injured and Remy is a big doubt. We need 2-3 more forwards no matter what, even if we offload the ex fulham pair or not. Same goes for a CB, we need one and unfortunately that seems to be Dunne who is having a medical today. I agree we shouldnt touch any midfielders without offloading 2-4 of them.
Could pick you up on more garbage that you have trotted out but that would take to long and had to pick you up on this bit most of all. Here's an article from 27.01.12 just after Faurlin received a serious cruciate injury in our game against MK naming him the Premier leagues most underated player: http://thefootballfront.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/most-underrated-players-in-premier_27.html "1.) Alejandro Faurlin - QPR: The 25 year old Argentine has been incredibly impressive this season without many of us recognising. Faurlin has been instrumental to QPR this season. The Argentine has made the most passes for QPR this season with 1147 passes and has a decent passing accuracy of 81%. Offensively Faurlin has shown great competency too. The 25 year old has created 28 chances, which is the second highest for QPR this term. But Faurlin’s defensive work has been genuine top quality this season. Faurlin has won 68 tackles. Making him the most successful tackler in the Premier League. Faurlin is quickly becoming a very complete box to box midfielder. It’s a shame Faurlin is out for the season, as he was progressing so rapidly in the Premier League. But more crucially, his injury is and will continue to hurt QPR too, as Faurlin offers great solidity in the middle of the park. If Faurlin can recover from his injury and prove he can recapture his great form, it’s only a matter of time till he will be interesting many big clubs across Europe". I remeber his first game back against Man City awa he was our best player. He played well until West Ham defeat at home. Suddenly dropped by Hughes. Confidence sucked out of him and he went on a bad run but he never regained it. We only have a finite amount to spend this year. Harry is a useless mug who picks his favourites and sticks with him. If he had any sense he would use that 5 mil towards getting Hooper. We have more than enough centre mids. Parker is on the decline and Faurlin can be just as good as him and 18 months ago was better than him.
Faurlin was NEVER on the same level as Scott Parker. And he never will be. He's slow, weak and hasn't got the bite for the English game. I can't understand the fan's affinity towards him. The Championship is his level, he's not a Premiership footballer, not by a long stretch. When Michael Carrick runs past you with the ball at his feet and accelerates away from you then you know you have a serious problem.
Are you thick? Firstly i just put an article up showing the stats that prove after 20 games he clearly was more than good enough for the prem level. Parker is now 32 FFS. So now sell on value becoming a less effective player and less able to recover and more likely to get injured with each month that goes buy and they want 5 mil!!! Secondly we're not in the Premiership we're in the ****ing championship. And Faurlin has only a couple of years ago been a key cog in winning that league.
Peter Everybody's entitled to their opinion and of course you are too. It was obvious to every journalist, football punter and QPR fan last year before his injury, that Faurlin, although a fine passer of the ball had neither the pace nor power to play in the Prem. many on here were screaming for him to br dropped. Like Mackie, we will always love him cause he tries. Which is a lot more than we can say about others. I'd love to be proved wrong here. I'd love for him to establish himself in our team for the next few years but I can't see it. Neither MH nor HR fancy him. our midfield malfunctioned last year and instead of keeping him after his return from injury he was let out on loan. I also believe that I read somewhere that they had an option to buy after the loan which they declined. I do however think he will shine this year in the Champ where he is playing against fewer technically gifted players than the Prem. just my opinion though.
If our aim Peter Damage, is to win the Championship, and it is, then we should surely fill our team with as many players who could also make the transition to the Prem as well. Faurlin in my opinion just doesn't have the dynamism or the pace to play in CM at this level. He couldn't get a game in a crappy Parlemo team when he was on loan either. You can throw all the stats you want, but this game isn't just about stats. To suggest Faurlin 18 months ago was a better player than Scott Parker (who put in a MOM display for England against Spain) is absurd. I think it's you who is thick mate.
