Too good to turn down â OâDriscoll Posted: Fri 12 Jul 2013 Author: Adam Baker Sean O'Driscoll Sean O'Driscoll Image by: josephmeredith.com Head coach says friendly has âcaught the imaginationâ. Sean OâDriscoll is relishing the chance to pit his side up against one of British footballâs iconic clubs. The head coach says the opportunity to host the Scottish giants at Ashton Gate was too good to turn down. And with sales of home and away tickets proving extremely popular, OâDriscoll is delighted with the way the fixture has caught the imagination of fans. He told bcfc.co.uk: âWhen the fixture opportunity came up it was one that we couldnât refuse. âIdeally we wouldnât have used the pitch this early but it was a sensible decision. âI had Torquay and Alan Knill lined up for a game at Plainmoor on the same day but had to hold off and eventually turn them down. âItâs an attractive pre-season game. As a player I never really enjoyed pre-season matches, but this one has certainly caught the imagination of supporters. âRangers are an iconic club in British football; there are Celtic and Rangers fans everywhere you go. âIt shows the size of the club and weâre delighted Rangers are coming to Ashton Gate.â Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Scott Wagstaff and Frank Fielding are all poised to make their debuts, while Sam Baldock, Greg Cunningham and Steven Davies should all shake off knocks to be involved. And of course it has nothing to do with Foster being released from his contract so he can join Rangers at all.
I'm gutted im on holiday so wont be able to see it but hopefully City will play some positive football and hold their own. It will also be good to show off the new faces and give SOD a headache over who will start the season as not too late for some fringe players to show what they can do given the chance.
