    New paper talk:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...idfielder-Jordan-Henderson.html#ixzz1O43Y1f9U

Now I know one of the biggest debates on here in the season was whether or not Hendo is actually any good, or just overhyped. Personally, I like him and think he has got the potential to be brilliant, I just think it's all come on rather thick and fast for him over the past 18 months.

I'd rather he stayed, and I would be disappointed if we didn't get upwards of 15m when he does go.

HOWEVER it is absolutely imperative we do not let any players go this summer, no matter the size of the bid, until we have replacements signed, sealed and delivered, even if the replacements are freebies. We can't take the chance of letting more players go from an already thin squad.

    Thoughts?

I say nothing less than £20mil should be even considered! People forget how good he was in the first half of the season and he's only going to improve IMO. I say keep but if a ridiculous offer came in then I'd take it because you could go out and get N'Zogbia and Larsson together for half the price I'd want for Henderson.

Hope he does stay though. It's good to see a local lad come through the youth and being given a chance in the prem. I'd be sad to see him go tbh

Maybe there is some concern about jordan, but read the last paragraph, what his dad say's.

There will be strong concerns at Sunderland about their prize asset Jordan Henderson switching agents to join the same company who negotiated Darren Bent's £24million exit.
Bent's surprise move to Aston Villa caused major upset at the Stadium of Light and the mood of manager Steve Bruce and his staff will not be improved by Henderson choosing the Wasserman Media Group to represent him.

Henderson, who made his England debut against France in November, has taken advantage of a release clause in his contract with former agents Key Sports.
WMG insist they have no intention of trying to move him on and that the midfielder, who will be looked after by Bent's agent Neil Fewings, is fully committed to Sunderland. But for how long?

Brian Henderson, Jordan's father and adviser, said: 'Jordon sees his future at Sunderland, 100 per cent, and WMG completely understand that. In my experience an agent only does what a player wants him to do.'

Liverpool lead £13m chase for Sunderland midfielder Henderson
    By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 1:09 AM on 2nd June 2011

Comments (0) Add to My Stories Share Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson after lining up a £13million bid.
Henderson has been linked with Manchester United, neighbours City and Arsenal in recent months, but the 20-year-old has told close friends he would prefer a move to Anfield after Liverpool made a formal approach to Sunderland.
Prize asset: Sunderland don't want to lose Jordan Henderson on the cheap

A deal is being held up by what one source described as a ‘ridiculous’ asking price, believed to be in the region of £20million, but Henderson could be a Liverpool player by the time he returns from England duty at the European Under-21 Championships in Denmark later this month.
Sunderland are lining up several deals themselves as they look to bring in five new players but are mindful they don't let one of the prize assets go on the cheap. They struck a deal with Aston Villa for Darren Bent but would prefer to have a replacement lined up for Henderson before allowing a sale.

I have to say that at 13mil I would not be upset, I see it like this.

Jordan can become a world class player and in the right team, used in the right way he will develop well. Our problem is we are not in the right place to bring him throw in that way so take the cash and get a good replacement who is developed, good for us and Jordan advances his career, good for him.

If he stays great, if he goes and we replace well, fine by me.

Would be a massive step backwards if we let Jordan go, even for silly money. What do we care how much money we get? it doesnt go into our bank accounts does it.

Selling Bent and possibly Jordan for how ever much money is stupid and we will never progress with this going on but unfortunately we are a "selling club" when the big clubs come calling for our players.

People forget Jordan is only 20 years old and has nearly established himself as a goal scoring premiership midfielder with England potential, the lad has so much time left and will no doubt become a very good footballer indeed.

So we sell Henderson for £15 million and then bank the cash and get Seb larsson in on a free? No thanks

It's a ****ing hard one this, i totally understand all of the different opinions but the facts are £13million, and bear in mind we supposedly won't take that, it'll be £16million, according to various reports, is a heap of money for a player who's career could go either way.

The Jordan of the second half against Wigan at the SOL this season, consistently, would be worth double these amounts, but on the flip the Jordan we see often is worth about a third.

I don't know, what i do know is that i love having a local lad in the team wearing the number 10 shirt.

I think you can discount that old quote from his dad, mentioned in another thread, about being committed to SAFC. That may have been true when he said it, but commitment is a moveable feast in football and I wouldn't base any hopes on it.
If Jordan has decided he wants to move on, I'm afraid sooner or later nothing is likely to stop him. If my pessimism is right, then we just have to make sure we don't make the complete mess we did of the Bent transfer. I agree we make £20m our bottom line, but I am also more concerned with proper replacements than money. We failed in that respect with Bent and would be crazy to let it happen again.
The Liverpool fans who've been commenting at http://salutsunderland.com/2011/06/...harden-our-hearts-and-make-them-pay/#comments clearly want him. One said they should offer us Shelvey or Spearing on loan as part of the deal. I'd sooner be flexible on the cash part and have a player sign for us properly. £17m + Spearing?

Spearing would be sent off for us almost every week - he is a dirtly little player (with undoubted ability) but no different to Cattermole and for SAFC he wouldn't get away with it for us. (also when he falls down outside the box he probably wouldn't even get a free-kick for us let alone a penalty!!)

Spearing has only done it for a dozen or so games - hasn't proven anything as yet and isn't the quality we need in our side - Henderson I believe will stay and will go on to be a much better player once we have the players around him to back him up and allow him the rest he's going to need to avouid burnout

Marcus: their fans must think we're desperate. Now they're offering Milan
Jovanovic who has been a total disaster at Liverpool and sits at home moaning about not being able to find anyone else to speak Serbian to

its totally untrue, no contact has been made between the clubs

I think it's Win-Win really if the club holds out for silly money in the region of £20m.

My guess is that the club does not want to see him go, ideally, but would be persuaded by £20m.

So I can't see him leaving for £12m - £14m TBH. His potential value in 3 years should be far greater than that.
