Just done some quick maths on our trip to Northampton for Coventrys first "HOME" game. Capacity is 7,600 if everyone was charged 25 pounds that means a maximum income of £190,000:00p Just wondering what the cobblers are charging for the rent of the ground
It will depend on the Coventry fans appetites for travelling to Northampton every other week bearing in mind they've not had great crowds at the Ricoh, and how many away tickets get offered as to whether they get any full houses. My guess is that there wont be many away tickets at all. As for what Northampton are charging, it wont be for free I dont imagine...! Then there is the wear an tear on the pitch, especially in Winter
I saw some estimates on the Coventry site where they think as few as 3000 might be regulars at Northampton due to the transport costs of getting there most people with families have said they won't be going.
According to AA Route Planner its 34.1 miles between the Ricoh and Sixfields. Not massive distances but probably a gallon of fuel each way on average (£10 overall) for Coventry based fans plus the extra time needed before and after the matches, especially midweek ones.
Thats if they have cars for those that don't it gets very expensive fast. Cheapest Adult return on the train is a tad under £50 so can't see many making that as a regular jaunt 2 Adults and a couple of kids £160 just to get to and from the match plus bus fares.
I reckon northampton will charge 300/400k but will also make all the corporate and hospitality money id assume
that's more than double what a full house would bring in 400K so Coventry would be bankrupt before the season was part through as the 60% wage cap would have all their players de registered
300/400k thats for the season mind northampton will make there money on the corportate and catering booze sales which could be upto a million, at this minute in time i do not think coventry have even started selling season tickets I can see them going down
Think about it the small gates they will now get losing lots of revenue there turnover will probably put them on par with stevenage borough on ffp
Just been browsing various CCFC web sites I think you can say that the fans are very unhappy they 99% back the City MP's who are raising questions about the company that runs CCFC in the commons using the protection MP's get in the House of Commons. the MP's have demanded that the Football league rescinds the permission for Coventry to play at Northampton until certain facts about the owners SISU are cleared up looks like this might run and run for a while yet. So I'd put travel plans on hold for a couple of weeks yet.
More like 3 gallons as a fair proportion of it will be urban cycle and most older cars struggle to get more than 25 to a gallon urban cycle. Plus an extra 2 hours plus for travelling and probably the need to buy food especially for weeknight games soon gets very expensive even more so if you are relying on coach travel when the only food you can get is at the ground. Plus a friend has just said parking in Northampton is a sod so factor in the cost of parking tickets also.
I travel from Wales to Bristol with a £6.20 bridge to pay and I go to every home game, if your a fan you will do it. We have fans that travel from Exeter, Dorset and further a field who travel. How Coventry fans probably live closer to Northampton than Coventry. **** time for them but unfortunately unless they pay the fee's Coventry could go under then the singing city till I die has been fruitless. I'm not knocking the fans they are understandably pissed off with the situation but all they can do is roll their sleeves up and grin and bare it until the club builds again.if they all stay away it never will be able to regroup and get through it.
I think it is not so much the costs though that can be considerable they do not trust the company running the club no accounts have been signed off on since 2010, assets have vanished, money owed has not been paid plus I'm not too sure about this as I only saw one mention of it but it was claimed that money raised by the fans for the club has also disappeared. I think fans of many a club might be reluctant to have further involvement with a company like that.
This is the sort of time that their fans really need to get behind the club, much like we did in 1982 and the ensuing years. Despite everything, their average home gate last season was nearly 11,000 and I really can't think that they won't get pretty much a full house for every home game at Sixfields as I really don't believe that they won't be able to muster 6,500 fans to make the trip. As for away fans, it depends on if they follow the Northampton model but if they do, they give the whole end behind the goal to the opposition which is probably close to 700 to 800 seats...
