Arsenal set to make Julio Cesar bid after weeks of dithering over the QPR and Brazil keeper 9 Jul 2013 22:31 Wenger hopes £1.5m offer will be enough to buy £70,000-a-week star the relegated Hoops want off their wage bill Gunner go? Julio Cesar celebrates winning the Confederations Cup with Brazil this summer Gunner go? Julio Cesar celebrates winning the Confederations Cup with Brazil this summer Laurence Griffiths Arsene Wenger is ready to firm up his interest in Queens Park Rangers keeper Julio Cesar with a £1.5million bid. Brazil international Cesar, who is on £70,000-a-week at relegated QPR, is keen on a switch to the Gunners, and is likely to be allowed to leave on the cheap to get him off the Championship club's wage bill. Arsenal boss Wenger sees the 33-year-old as the ideal experienced keeper to come in alongside Wojciech Szczesny, but also be their new No1. The north Londoners identified Cesar as their top keeper target months ago but have been slow in getting the deal done. Wenger may also consider going back in for Swansea and Wales centre-half Ashley Williams now Thomas Vermaelen could miss the start of the season with a back injury. Swansea have been demanding £10m, which scared off Arsenal, but if they find a compromise then the deal could be back on. Meanwhile, Arsenal misfit Nicklas Bendtner was having talks with Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday. Hamburg and Malaga are also interested in the Denmark striker. Precisely ........... I know keepers are valued less than other positions but Cesar at 1.5 million, they are having a laugh. The guy, on current form, must surely be rated in the top five keepers in the world ................. ok? So how does 1.5 mill stack up? It Doesn't. Tell the Arrse to stick it.
At least 6-7 million or no deal. Why do we always seem to pay over the odds for the players we buy and then let anybody of any value leave for frig all.
Arsenal reckon we will take anything just to get him off the wage bill. HR/TF will be silly if they let him go for anything under £5m. The club have lost money by paying over the odds for players for years, now is the time to redress the balance by NOT selling on the cheap, but at least getting somewhere near market value.
Hes in demand so theres no need to accept it, £1m is about what wed accept for a loan for the season. £3m is about right for me.
I read on here somewhere that he's got a relegation release clause of about £3 million - if so, we shouldn't accept any offers less than that figure.
If he's on £70k a week, which sounds very plausible, his salary is £3.6+m a year. If freeing up cash is the aim, we should take anything. If having a good team is the aim we should keep him. Green is a permanent time bomb.
We want to get rid. It depends how desparately a number of others want him. We need competition for his signature in order to maximise the transfer fee.
Simon Mignolet: Liverpool sign Sunderland keeper for £9m ....The Belgium international has played 101 games for Sunderland since his £2m move from Sint-Truiden in June 2010. (nice piece of business) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23011973
Cesar is a terrible signing for any top premier league club. He's 33 and wasn't brilliant with us. They'd do better investing in youth!
I would disagree - Brazilian international #1 goalkeeper? Great experience to share with a young understudy.....and his wife can still shop at Harrods?
I think it needs to be put into context in terms of what Arsenal need. They have a young keeper in Szscesny who can be world class, but is too young to be the number 1 keeper of a top 10 worldwide club without any competition. This is why Cesar is perfect for them. Has a couple of years of top football left, and can both mentor and give Szcsesny much needed competition. They need a short term goalkeeping fix and Cesar may well be perfect.
Disagree, the Arsenal keepers always make major mistakes under pressure, they have too much youth and not enough experience. The exact opposite of us. They can easily get another 5+ years out of him.
