Anthony Gardner has one England cap, Carlton Cole has seven, you can't go adding kids games to try and make a point, the fact is, neither were really good enough to play for England.

What, so playing for your country 33 times at all levels isnt significant? And even if we use your method, 7 is still quite a lot of caps!! 1 can be a mistake or oversight, 7 isnt.

It's not that I don't think Cole is good enough, but to get him we would have to pay a significant signing on fee and big wages. In return we get a striker who, throughout his career averages 4 or 5 league goals a season. That kind of strike rate will not keep us up. We will still need to buy a proven goalscorer, which will cost a lot of money.

SB has said that he is looking at bringing in 3 (but possibly more) new signings before the season starts. We need a number 2 keeper, people are saying that we are looking at a defensive midfielder.

I suspect that we don't have enough money to get Cole, another striker, a DM and a GK (plus possibly some others on loan).

We have had a non-scoring striker in McLean, who posters moaned about because it is to a large extent a strikers job to put the ball in the onion bag, and yet people now say we should get another one?

(I do of course appreciate that Cole is a superior player to McLean)

Cole has a 1 in 3 record in the Prem and mroe than 150 games, it's not the same as Mclean. Once again it's all about opinions but I think he's as good as we could realistically get and a 3 year 35k a week deal plus 200k singing on fee costs us £5.6million. I cant see who else that good we could get for that combined fee and salary.

All might be pointless anyway - we might not be interested and neither might he be. But if it was up to me I'd certainly try.

And I bet I know the answer if you asked Michael Owen who he liked playing with?

Cole having a 1 in 3 record in the premier league is a myth and I'm not sure where its come from. He's scored 44 premier league goals in 241 premier league appearances, averaging a goal every 5 hours and 13 minutes on the pitch, which is less than 1 in 5.

Michael Owen described him as one of the best strikers he ever played with.

Yes and thats cause not every forward is on the pitch to just bang in the goals. Players like Heskey and Cole are there to compliment their partner forward whom will score the majority of the goals i.e. Owen, defoe etc. Then if the Heskeyesc player can chip in with a few goals along they way then thats a bonus (shame heskey never does, but Cole can bag a few).

If we were to sign Cole and partner him along side an odemwingie, le fondre, hooper then that would be perfect in my eyes. Expecting the little forward to bag 10-15 goals and cole to bag around 5-10 id say this is a very realistic point of view.

I wouldn't disagree at all and as I've already said, I'd be more than happy to see him join us.

I was just making the point that he was never actually good enough to play for England and comparing him to City strikers of the past was pointless, as we've barely spent any time in the top flight and it's all relative, we've had strikers at City that had more impact at the level we were playing at, than Cole would be likely to have next season.

Not sure how good this video is, but Phillip Hosiner from Austria Vienna managed 21 league goals (32 across all competitions) last season. Yeah, some of the defending/goalkeeping is a bit suspect (the one against the keeper who takes a touch is quite funny, but it's a good finish anyway). Reminds me a little of Fryatt in the 2011/12 season.

In that case we're on the same page.

As far as the comparisons go, it's daft to be comparing players over different leagues and different leagues (like comparing messi to pele). But there is no denying CC is pl quality unlike forwards we've ever had before bar 1 or 2, however if he does sign he will have know where near as bigger impact on the club as the likes of chilton et al.

Lifted this off BBC Sports Day..

Manager Steve Bruce says Hull City will not be rushed in their search for new attacking options, despite seeing a move for long-standing target Charlie Austin collapse this week, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

""Listen, I could go and get 10 strikers tomorrow if I wanted but they've got to meet a certain criteria for what we're looking for," he said

    Brucie's the man again.

Perhaps I'm reading something too much from the second bit of the quote but I think he's got someone in mind who is close to being signed maybe by the end of this week -

I'd actually love it if he went and got 10 strikers today. That'd show em.
