I thought about a long bike ride this morning . I didn't do it , but it's the thought that counts............
So far so good. Slowly ramping up the mileage. But then, I have only been training for a week now! Today is a 'rest' day so I get to enjoy the sun all day! 12 miles to do tomorrow though so I will have to make an early start to avoid the impending 'heatwave'. Before I decided to run the marathon, I signed up to do the Winchester PPP (Peddle, Paddle, Pace) Triathlon. That's on the 21st of this month so that will be a good event to mix training up a bit, despite the minimal running involved.
Just done a survey on British attitudes...questions about bikes...how many times I ride a bike in a year etc...how the interviewer kept a straight face I have no idea. Especially the final one...have I any intention of buying a bike...strange that the options didn't include: 'Not while there is a car, train or plane left in the world.'
I thought I`d better bung you a tenner before the tight-fisted Jock puns start. Good luck ! - I ran the 2010 London marathon for MacMillan - I found it quite a humbling experience. I hope many more 606`ers forego the price of a couple of pints to help you support a great cause.
I don't mind bikes at all. They can go places a car can't, but I can agree with your effort and comfort angle. I prefer bikes with engines in between the wheels. Push-bikes are fine as long as you don't want to to get anywhere in a hurry. And not too far either, because when you're there you eventually have to ride the thing back. Push-bikes and trains go together surprisingly well.
Many thanks AberdeenSaint! I've been applying to run the London Marathon for years and years, but never get a place. The demand is just so high. There are the charity places, but you have to raise 2.5k or something crazily unrealistic like that. I still hope to run it one day though, just because its such a huge event.
Yeah, that's not happening!! No idea how long it's going to take me. But it will be at least an hour more than that!
Ha. Yes that would be a pretty good lick for 26 miles. Showed up at Parkrun this morning. The guy who won was doing marathon training - he started running at 7.30am, ran the race in about 16.5 minutes, and ran off again.
It's the triathlon that gets me....those men are machines (or incredibly stupid). You can get a gold medal for just running 100 metres...why not just do that
I`ve just had confirmation of my good for age place at London next year. Last time, I crossed the finish line with James Cracknell, so I was on telly for a nano-second. Fame hasn`t changed me though.
Hi chaps and chapettes! I've managed to avoid collapsing in ditches thus far, so I suppose you could say that training is going well! Having said that, had a minor setback this week. Did a 12.5 mile run a week ago today and picked up a large blister on the back of my heel. It seems the shorter training runs in the middle of the week and walking up and down beaches (as part of my job) since then must have irritated it. It Swelled up and bruised all around where the achilles tendon attaches to the heel. So I'm giving it a bit of a rest to heal up. Only a minor issue, but best to let it sort itself out rather then continue to irritate it. Should be back into it within the next couple of days. Oh and I am cycling instead in the meantime! No rest for the wickid and all that.
