Nicola Cortese is to football shirt design what Michael Gove is to school curriculum design. They have both got it oh so very wrong but choose to ignore the views of others.
Do you guys think you will ever get a striped top again? He seems determined that you play in red only. I can only imagine how it feels, I suppose it would be the same if Pompey started to play in Blue and White stripes, Yukola!
Fixed that for you. I know people see Cortese as micro-managing every aspect of the club, but come on, he did not design the shirt.
Agreed but someone had the final word, pointed and said "That one please" and I think that person might just have been Nicola.
Mush at work had the new shirt on today, so first time I've seen it in the flesh. I hold my hands up that I've been the biggest moaner about the shirt on here. It takes a hell of a lot for me to admit I was wrong about something, I hope you can all appreciate that it takes character to swallow your pride and publically do an about face.... .... but thankfully I don't have to. Bloody hell its awful, even worse than I feared and I feared a damn lot! Horrible washed out colour, sleeves are dreadful, feels incredibly flimsy & cheap (even by Polyester standards) and as for the gold crest & sponsors logo... well... words fail me. I had to sack the mush wearing it. I just HAD to.
I had to go to town today and decided to go into West Quay and take a look at the new kit. It is bloody horrid, even the socks. In the Store there were three assistants and no customers buying just people walking in and then walking out again. Nicola has made a very big mistake. Unlike last year people were split on the "Liverpool" shirt but it moved off the racks. Sadly I don't think this shirt is going anywhere other than in the same bloody great warehouse that is currently full of white shirts with thin red lines.
Get the stripes and sashes out for the first home game of the season to drive home the point that SAINTS = RED & WHITE STRIPES!
Yeah, lets make the point of wearing club merchandise, for a game which we paid to be at, with our programme in hand and most likely after a few drinks or a bite to eat. It's all money in the same pot.
In all seriousness, I get your point. But it's all preference. It makes no difference to the powers that be what shirt you wear to the football.
If the sales of the new kit fail to reach the break-even point I would think that makes quite a big difference to Nicola's peace of mind.
I'm sure shirt sales will be disappointing this season, so that'll be enough of a lesson. No need to put on a silly protest over a shirt.
Not every fan buys a new strip every season...except when there is a reason, such as 1st year back in PL. I suspect enough have bought it.
Agreed. But people not wearing it to the ground if others are buying it online and wearing it elsewhere will cancel that out. As Joe says, I fully expect it to be disappointing in terms of sales.
It would be interesting to know the sales for years when we had consecutive seasons of (a) the exact same kit and (b) two similar striped kits, and be able to compare them to the sales of this new kit. I think that the problem with stripes from a selling point is that there's not a lot you can do with it, and I can't imagine too many designs exist which we haven't used before. If there are two similar kits, how many fans go out and buy it if they already have a similar one at home? The same with having the exact same kit for a consecutive year, there would be an extremely low minority (if any) that would buy the same kit twice, so you're only selling to those who have not bought the kit before. Therefore, I doubt that sales would be too different from if we'd been consecutive stripes through our time under Cortese. Ofcourse, if he were to go back to stripes, I imagine we will see a boost in sales as we have not worn them for a few years, but I doubt they would maintain into a second year.
Well I'll be boycotting the shirt... in the same way that I boycott the Sun, the Echo, the Mail, KFC, the food at St Mary's, Apple, Loose Women, bottled water, cricket, tomatoes, and those really sugary energy drinks. Think that's about it.
