Havent seen a thread on this, but may have missed it! I see a few clubs not much bigger, if even bigger than us are starting to spend ridiculous amounts of money on certain players. We were heavily criticised by the media, and subsequently many fans who perceived us to be big spenders just because they read it in the papers. Southampton actually spent 20m last summer on Rodriguez and Ramirez. And are rumoured to be in for that Celtic midfielder for 12 million this summer. Adding to that are Cardiff who are about to spend 8.5 million on Thomas Ince who is totally unproven at PL level. We actually spent money on players who were supposed to be proven at PL level - Park, Bosingwa and players who had played at the top level in other countries - Granero, Cesar, Remy. So I dont get this criticism of us as a club, compared to others stated above. Not much difference really other than the age of the players they are signing. 8.5 million for Ince is madness tbh!
I understand the criticism for obscene transfer fees and we rightly had our fair share; what I don't understand is those throwing stones whilst firmly stood in glass houses..... Completed transfers that are/were on par with our signings last season or before Cornelius to Cardiff = £7.5 million Lovren to Southampton = reported £8.5 million Shelvey to Swansea = £5 million Van Wolfswinkel to Norwich = £8.5 million Dwight Gayle to Crystal Palace = reported £8.5 million Have to say that some of those are young and therefore come at a premium but most (Shelvey) haha; actually all are unproven at PL level. You never know they might play blinders and be signings of the season.
