How do you know that he will be exactly the same? Parker would be a superb signing for any championship club in my opinion. To suggest he is past it is craaazy talk! I would be surprised to see him leave Spuds, but I guess they now have the Brazilian boy to fit into the team...snap him up I say, assuming no other Prem team wants him, although I would expect some would. Not so sure about Upson though, could probably do a decent job in the championship but agree with Flyer that he would probably need replacing upon promotion. Nelsen seemed to do pretty well for us though (for a player that was well past it)
The fact that every 30+ player has been a let down means its very likely the new signings will be the same. No doubt he would want a long deal too before he retires. Signing players wanting one last big pay day does not work.
I agree with you Flyer. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. There are players out there laughing at us for paying them so much at the back end of their careers. Talking of mugs, we have been well and truly been mugged by some of em.
I don't know? A fool and their money are easily parted? I don't want that to sound as having a go at TF as I think he is a gentleman. A naïve gentleman but a gentleman all the same who has done and continues to do much for our club.
It was something like insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
I'd say that is not strictly true. Samba, Cisse, Barton and co. have been a MAJOR disappointment. Nelsen, Derry, Hill and co. have contributed massively and have given 100% every time they've played. Having a simple 'No over 30's' transfer policy is also quite short sighted. A team needs older more experienced players, the problem was, we didn't get the right ones. We got players who had great records, but their records are all done and gone...we need to fully assess where they are NOW before we sign them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't remember any of our signings going on a long walk (for example) with the manager so that they can be assessed it terms of personality/attitude/willingness to muck in. Many of our past +30 players came in as panic buys, and there was no time to assess how their characters would fit into the team. A summer of long walks for Harry may well be very beneficial in putting together a squad that is united and works together.
I think its exactly the opposite, its short sighted buying old players. I have no problem keeping players who turn 30 because they would have been with us several years and know what the club is about. Age doesnt mean experience. Faurlin and Taarabt know more about QPR than Barton or Cisse ever could.
