I just don't understand the logic in paying out 7Mish for a reserve keeper.

Would have made far more sense to keep Courtois and let him have a year settling in London and getting used to the club. Even if the best thing is for Coutois to be playing then a loan to a Prem club would still have been better. Either way I see zero logic in this transfer at the prices quoted. There are as good keepers for less surely.

I can't see us selling for 7m, we'd be looking for at least the amount Liverpool paid for Mignolet because replacing him will be very difficult for us.

He is absolutely brilliant and if you do shell out that much I imagine it would be to have him as first choice, otherwise it would be madness. That seems doubly crazy given how good Cech can be, but Mourinho has form for doing odd things with 'keepers (Diego Lopez).

Having said that, there doesn't seem to be any proof of interest at all, so I'm not convinced you've done more than enquire.

I'd rather have seen us keep Hilarious for another year and start 14/15 with Courtois! He on the few occasions he's been called on has never really let us down!

Or Schwarzer for a year? Reliable and free.

This would have made the most sense. If we do bring Courtois back next season he would have been far more capable of stepping in to the #1 spot with some Prem games under his belt.

Why does it matter if he is getting games in the Prem or la liga? He is number 1 in the 3rd best team in la Liga and will play in the Champions League next season. The only reason to loan him to a Prem club would be if he was in one of the top teams in the divisions and even then why would we want to make a rival stronger?

Ruddy is far to good to be a reserve goalkeeper, it also makes no sense for him to sit on the bench when the world cup is just around the corner, he needs to be playing games.

Mourinho's not adverse to making big changes in goalkeeping position.
I dont think this would be a good move for either party though. Ruddy would only be a reserve keeper so would surely be better off at Norwich.

If you can't see the difference between the 2 leagues and the completely different levels of intensity then I can't answer your question....or maybe I can quite simply, De Gea. A keeper of similar standing when he left Spain who had an absolutely terrible time to begin with and who clearly couldn't take the intensity of the Prem. Being here on the bench or on loan would rectify that with out it costing Chelsea.

What do you mean by intensity? As someone who watches a lot of la liga I can tell you that De Gea was making the same mistakes for athletico Madrid as he was for united. It had nothing to do with playing in a different league.

A keeper learns by getting tested and making saves. He will be playing in a top league and champions league with a top team. I can't see any negatives here as he would not start for us right now.

    I wouldn't have expected anything less <doh>

I think your writing style seems very familiar. Hope you're not an account created by a non Chelsea supporter. I guess time will tell.

His performances against us probably flagged him up in the first place. Both games he did well and left me watching feeling frustrated. He is too good for a reserve and at twenty six is just coming into that period where a goalkeeper really should make themselves key to the squad. An ambitious keeper may not think Cech's place is unassailable. In a way it is good that someone thinks they can be better and aspires to the very top.

Chelsea make the offer to the club and the player, ultimately it is up to both of those to make the decision about whether the money is right for the opportunity offered. There is always a risk in any move, a player could get injured, their family may not settle, they could lose form even when played regularly, become complacent........ none of these though should be a reason for not signing.

I believe Chelsea do not want a reserve keeper, but someone who can really push Cech till either Cech steps up or the new guy becomes top dog. Turnbull had that chance. Hilario was the 'reserve', extra experience on tap for training and playing standby. Ruddy is perfect for Chelsea, but he has to decide if he is up for the fight.

I would have thought Courtois would do that which is why loaning him and then spending 7M+ makes not a lot of sense.

Maybe Mo and Cech don`t get on?
Maybe Mo believes Cech had something to do with him being sacked first time?
    I don`t know just asking.
