I'm pretty sure Stuart Elliot was a record signing in there too, after Dudfield. I think that article might have got Dudfield's fee a bit high. Marney was £500,000 initially in July 06 so he should be in there too shouldn't he?
Stu Elliott cost £230k from Motherwell. Marney was £500k and further £500k if we got promoted to the PL so therefore a £1m in the end.
Lawrie Dudfield definitely £250k. Rated him but no bottle and lost his way in the game. Isn't he now doing something on the corporate side of things?
I quite liked Folan - cracking late winner against Coventry at home, not to mention that beaut at the Hawthorn that won us the game and made everyone believe we could get promotion to the PL that year. Didn't he contribute 9 goals in our promotion year also. Blackpool on Sky was his debut i seem to recall - 9 or 10 mins of added tiem due to his head injury only for BBB to do us.
Folan contributed massively in the promotion season and then scored the goal to win us our first ever premier league match, he was a good buy, always liked our folan i did
Halmosi was the biggest flop for me, what did he ever do? Atleast there's a few positives about bullard buried beneath the negatives
At the time, the record transfer fee was £115,000 for Dennis Law from Torino to Man U, making our transfers 35% of the record. If you consider Torres was £50,000,000 from Liverpool to Chelsea then we are looking at £17,500,000 as the equivalent today. It says a lot for our relative spending power in 1964/65 (or how the balance in football has changed).
I always chuckle remembering a quote from Deano, something like "Caleb Folan is so laid back he could fall asleep on a washing line".
Found the article, this is well worth a read, some classic Deano quotes. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1081361/Just-Chelsea-need-losing-record-trip-Hull-8217-s-shock-troops.html
