Good to see that Didsy has signed his permanent contract at long last. It's only a 2 year deal though but hey at least he is now our player. http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/23144/mcgoldrick-deal-signed So far we have signed Skuse, Tabb, Murphy & McGoldrick not bad but we desperately need more signings!
Time to start looking at the defensive side of the squad I reckon, not heard much about this southend player we have been linked with! I reckon, one wide player, 2 CB's, RB & GK and thats us sorted for numbers i reckon!
If you wait for long enough 2 turn up at once! Back up goalkeeper http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/23146/blues-closing-in-on-gerken-deal
I actually think this is a very good bit of business, Him and Loachy will push each other for the starting spot and i have confidence in both of them. Some very sensible transfer dealings so far this summer!
Some may say underwhelming, personally i'd say 'understated' by which I mean I think we've been plodding along nicely doing our business and come the end of this window we will realise that we've actually performed very well, completely under the radar of the competition
KOPR Isn't that saying in a polite sort of way that we are picking up players that no one else wants?
Not quite, well not really anyway. What I mean is a large number of our fans as well as fans of other clubs will not be getting over excited by our signings and therefore won't be considered as much of a 'challenger' for the coming season... whereas we are building a strong nucleus which could ultimately be there and there abouts.. Much like Norwich when they got promoted, or Hull last season etc. etc. where we aren't fancied pre season because of some sensible low key signings rather than going for the 'names' such as your Beckford's, Bullard's and DJ Campbells....
Can see where you are coming from KOPR, We are turning into a very strong championship side by sensible solid signings. Also if we do have some cash (not saying we have) its not getting splashed about and the selling clubs aren't going to be holding us to ransom unlike the past few years.
Stearman yes, was he one of the players banished to the youth team training by Jackett? I know Roger Johnson was, now he is one i would defo want.
I like McGoldrick he's a proper footballer, intelligent on the ball etc but I'm not sure how much he'll bring to the team as he's never really scored alot of goals apart from his spell at Coventry neither is he a player who is overly creative. Hopefully we'll be a bit more attacking and dynamic going forward next season so it'll suit his style a little more. In terms of Gerkin, I can only imagine he's been brought in as a back up GK as I don't think he's an overly rated keeper, particularly given that he has just been released from Bristol where he spent the majority of his time as their number 2. Better than ALB but not the long term answer to our GK position. We've done some solid yet uninspiring business so far in the transfer window. I'd like to see us add some real quality/creativity to the team now. I think minimum we need a RW and CB and RB cover, ideally I'd like to see us get a new GK, cover for RB and CB, a creative CM, 2 wingers one on each flank and a natural goalscoring striker (to replace Chopra). As I've said before under most other managers I would currently be quite concerned at the strength of our squad as there's not alot in that team who excites me but Mick has a great record in this division of getting the best out of average players, so we'll be fine (I hope).
I've heard we're not even going to try and sign him mainly due to wages I'd imagine. He's a quality CB but IMO not a RB. Apparently Hewitt is being lined up as our first team RB next season with a RB from Southend Clohessy as back up. I'm pleased that Hewitt will hopefully be given a chance as he looks like he has bags of potential and we'd have a great young back line with 2 quality full backs. Personally I would've liked to have seen an experienced RB come in someone like D Wright to try and bring Hewitt through and offer him advise.
Can't disagree with you on that one JWM, although to pick up what ptc has said, maybe it's time and a deserved chance for Hewitt to kick on.. Personally I think the Stearman saga will go on all summer as I think MM is willing to play the waiting game on this as an early deal would mean us spending some money, whereas if he's still there near deadline day we could well be able to get him in on a season loan or some sort of reduced terms as they try to shed the high earners that aren't involved in the squad.
There's no doubting that Stears was excellent for us but for some reason I just want to see young Hewitt installed as our permanent RB.
I would much rather see Hewitt as a RW and Stearman come in at RB. The right hand side would then look pretty awesome!
Still don't really rate Stearman as a RB and he's definitely not the long term answer to that position would prefer someone who goes over the half way line but he's a quality CB for this division. Would be great if we could get him for the role of CB and havehim competing with Smith and Chambers. I really can't see us getting him though, I doubt we can afford him and even if we could I'm sure there will be alot of interest in him.
Would love to see Stearman come back, but I have a feeling it would be a season long loan. Do like the idea of starting Hewitt, but given that he's played less than 10 games for us and was injured last year, I honestly don't see this being something that will happen. Think we still need: GK, RB, 2 CB, LW, possibly RW and possibly a back up CM, but I'm hoping that Lawrence will crack on this year.
MM has never been anything other than quietly eficient so I do agree with this. In addition I also agree we dont need 'names' we need talent. we've tried proven talent and it has been a disaster. If a player looks like he can fit in then I dont care if he come from Man Utd or Whitton Utd. I do however look at other clubs and think to myself 'get your finger out of your arse town' and I still dont trust ME. At least we can look forward to a more sensible season with MM at the helm and I cant see it being a rollercoster ride.
