If the dear old Daily Fail can could ever be relied upon for honest true reporting, they state today online that Romelu Lukaku favours Chelsea over Real Madrid?

I've seen some footage of him on you tube and he is in the Drogba mould but is that a good thing or should we be looking at a different emphasis in our attack?

Interesting one and been on the cards for a while. Seems like a very good player and will only get better but my 2 reservations are that: -

    - You can't replace Drogba in my view. I have never seen a player of his style be so good when on top of his game. Literally unplayable at times. You can focus an attack around Drogba, but an 18 year old kid with no top level experience?

    - Doesn't provide the creativity I think we need in our attack. Neymar for me seems a lot more of an exciting option, something completely different to shake us up a bit.

I think we should definitely go for him. I reckon we'll miss a strong bulldozer like striker like Drogba if we don't replace him, we've relied on him alot over the years and our players are still very much suited to a player like him. So getting a younger, exciting and more hungry player in his mould can only be good cant it? Neymar is still a must though, we shouldn't be aiming for one of the two but both of them. Neymar would be a good partner for Torres, he'd be able to play off him like Gerrard did, allowing him the space to play those defence splitting passes. Or he could play out wide in a 4-3-3.

I dont get to see many Brazilian league games, but Graham Hunter does, and he reckons Chelsea "dodged a bullet" when we failed in our bid to sign Neymar last season. Too immature, and not professional enough for European football yet.

I think Lukaku is a better option. He may only be 18, but he has already played a lot of football, and was top scorer in the league in his first full season. As suggested, he is a similar player to Drogba, and could replace him eventually as the focal point of our attack.

i agree with what you're saying but who will get him the ball. Our supply line is the main problem and signing Lukaku wont solve that. Why we are even going after strikers seems a little odd given we have Drogba, Torres and Sturridge at least. Throw anelka and Kalou into the mix and surely we are pretty set as long as we get some creativity and pace back into the starting 11.

This seems like a very strange argument. If we sign Lukaku, why on earth does that mean that we won't look to buy a creative midfielder or a winger? Can't we sign him and other players? We have already been linked with Pastore and have been rumored to have made a bid for him and I can see us going in for either Sneijder or Modric.

Yes we could sign him and others as well. I'm just saying a centre forward should be a few rungs down our list of priorities.

Really can not see Modric or Sneijder happening. They will go to United or stay where they are. Pastore maybe but silly money is being muted. Probably similar to what fabregas would go for. There are others out there but how many at the required level and available??

i would go for him and neymar.. both young so they would be with us for a very long time which would be great for the club... if we could turn lukaku into what drogba is well lets just say....... arsenal would continue to fear us :)

My word our club is like a husband looking at other women. Eyeing up talent away from home. Why drool over a beefburger abroad when we have steak at home (to coin a phrase). It is glaringly obvious to me that Daniel Sturridge is one of the hottest prospects in Europe given a run in a team. I just hope its ours, and our new manager realizes it too. He has shown at his short time at Bolton what he can do. Supply him with the ammo he will get the hits we require no question, in my humble opinion. Don't get me wrong I think its good for us too be looking at talent abroad but sometimes what you need is right under your nose if only you look.

I can't see United getting Modric and Sneijder. I think if Guus comes in it could really swing it for us to get Sneijder as Guus already has a good relationship with him.

I would be happy to let Drogba, Anelka and Kalou go. We may get a season or two out of Drogba and Anelka but they are going to start fading fast soon and they will be on big wages and will have zero resale value. Although Kalou has done well coming off the bench he still drives me mad with some of the sitters he misses.

I would like to see Torres, Sturridge, Neymar and Lakuka all fighting for starting places up front next season. We have a player supposedly in his prime, but with something to prove and three young, hungry players all with very different attributes but all with pace to burn and looking to establish themselves in the premiership and Europe. If it all clicks and we keep them happy we could have a settled forward line for the next few seasons at least.

In midfield I am hoping that Ramires has a more consistent season as he has shown flashes of being a very good player indeed. Essien too needs to have a better season as he went through a very bad patch of form last season. Lamps is hopefully going to stay fit next season and hopefully McEachran will be used to give him a break when he needs it. If we can throw into the mix Sneijder and a wide man, the midfield would be much less pedestrian and uncreative as it was last season. Add to this Paizon, who arrives in January and is one of the hottest young Brazilian attacking midfield players and we could have quite a midfield on our hands.

Defense is not a problem area. We had the best defense in the league last season and the only change will be at right back. Van der Wiel is supposed to be coming in to replace Boswinga. I would push Luiz up as a defensive midfielder and have a back four of Cole/Terry/Alex/Van Der Wiel with Ivanovic able to play at CB or RB. Zhirkov will go and that will leave a place on the bench for Bertrand and Van Aarnholt as cover for LB.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying but neymar, lukaku, sneijder plus a wide man. That's probably 100 million on top of the 70 we spent in Jan (also assuming bos / van der wiel happens and doesn't cost us much). I can't see us spending that much but wouldn't mind being proven wrong!! I do wonder if Pastore would be a better bet than Modric or Sneijder though given his age. We really need to build a squad for the next 5-7 years now i think.

I actually meant that United might get one and the other would stay where they are. But who knows...???

Sneijder is only 26 so would have 5 seasons in him at least. I wouldn't be surprised if Roman does spend 100 million this summer given that it's the last transfer window before the financial fair play rules kick in.

yeah i agree, i think roman will have a massive player binge, most notably of talented youths so that they're well set before finances need to be in order

According to Anderlecht, we are now in talks with them over the transfer of Romelu Lukaku

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13817163.stm

Sounds good and makes it likely that he may be our first signing this summer. Would be a quality buy in my opinion. He is already a good player, is tall, big, has a lot of potential and is only 18 years old. He appears to be in the same mold as Didier Drogba. Any idea how much he may go for if we do get him?

I believe that Lukaku is a chelsea fan. If the clubs agree a fee he will sign for us before anyone else.

VDW, Modric, Sanchez, Lukaku and De Bruyne would be perfect

I think it was sky sports that actually spoke to the Anderlecht manager about Lukaku, saying they are negotiating with us and a few other clubs. I think it's pretty obvious he wants to come to Chelsea, what with all the quotes from him saying his dream is to play for Chelsea etc etc.

De Bruyne has also come out and said he wants to play for Chelsea and his agent confirmed we are in talks. De Bruyne stated he wants games so doesn't mind being loaned to Anderlecht so he can prove himself, but if we bring Lukaku straight to the team then why not him? (19 isn't so young and we need wingers!)

IMO they both look like great prospects and I'd love to have them at Chelsea.

How much do you think we should pay for them? I know I heard a figure of around £20million for Lukaku although that was before so it's not anything official or accurate.
