Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has been told he will fly to Australia to link up with the Reds on their pre-season tour later this month. The unsettled striker has made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid this summer but the Reds have received no offers and he remains a key part of boss Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the new season. Suarez was given three weeks off by Liverpool following Uruguay’s final game in the Confederations Cup – their third and fourth play-off defeat to Italy on penalties – last Sunday. As a result he’s been informed to report back for club duty on Monday, July 22nd Suarez will miss the Indonesia leg of the tour from July 15 to 20 but is expected to join the Reds squad in Melbourne ahead of the friendly against Melbourne Victory at the MCG on July 24. The 26-year-old still has six games of his 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic back in April to serve but his suspension only applies to competitive matches. That means he could feature Down Under against Victory and against Thailand in Bangkok on July 28 before the Reds return to the UK to prepare for the visit of Olympiacos for Steven Gerrard’s testimonial at Anfield on August 3. Liverpool’s position on Suarez hasn’t altered since they were stunned by the interviews he gave in South America ahead of the Confederations Cup. Last season’s 30-goal top scorer claimed he had been victimised by the English media and that he needed to move on because his family were “suffering”. Suarez also made it clear that Real Madrid was his favoured destination. However, the Reds have always insisted they have no interest in selling Suarez and that remains the case. The striker hasn’t informed Liverpool directly of his desire to seek a transfer and despite frenzied speculation since the end of last season there have been no approaches to secure his services. With Suarez still having three years left on his contract, Liverpool believe they are firmly in control of the situation. Rodgers has previously admitted that every player has his price and Suarez is no different. But the ECHO understands it would take a bid in excess of £45million – coupled with a transfer request from the player – for the Reds to even consider doing business. Liverpool believe the prolific striker’s value has at least doubled since his arrival for £22.8million from Ajax two and a half years ago. It has been suggested that Real are planning on waiting until late on in the window to make their move in the belief that Liverpool would have to accept a knockdown offer rather than risk keeping hold of an unhappy player. However, the Reds insist that won’t happen and they are determined to ensure there is no repeat of events in January 2011 when Fernando Torres forced through a £50million switch to Chelsea on deadline day. With little time to find a replacement, Liverpool instantly splashed out a club record £35million on Andy Carroll, who never came close to living up to that hefty fee. Not only must the offer be right for Suarez to be granted a move but also the timing with the Reds adamant they won’t consider bids late on in the window as they would need sufficient opportunity to re-invest the funds wisely. Liverpool hope the price tag scares off rival clubs as they want Suarez to knuckle down and lead their charge for Champions League qualification in 2013/14. Pepe Reina and Sebastian Coates have also been granted three weeks leave following their commitments at the Confederations Cup in Brazil. Both players face uncertain futures at Anfield following the summer signings of keeper Simon Mignolet and centre-back Kolo Toure. But there have been no bids for either player and as it stands Liverpool expect them to join Suarez for the Australia and Thailand legs of the pre-season tour. ----------------------------------------------------------- Full story there. This is all just media twisting. Every player gets a holiday period. The whole squad have just had the whole of June off, but Suarez was still at the Confederations cup. If Suarez goes straight back to training he gets no holiday at all. That would just be immoral. Remember last year, Reina and co got back a lot later than the rest because they were involved in the Euro final.
not worried about this. my main thing is that we need to move him sooner rather than later as the contract will run out fast. I am of the opinion that the guy is not the type not to turn up. I reckon he'll b back in L4 and get on the plane for the tour. I think mkhitaryan is playing a bad game and it puts me off him. Its like tevez... i really think suarez will go on tour unless a bid actually arrives. I fully expect coaste to go on loan in august and I think reina going to barca is the type of deal those catalan schisters will try to go do on the cheap on aug 31. In short roll on preston north end!
Depends on how you tone it, the word told seems to interpret he's being forced, i might fly over from Perth and slap an apology out of him!
The club have said that we won't sell Suarez late in the window as it won't give us enough time to find a replacement. I just hope the club stay strong on this.
