As mentioned above, his agent seems to favour scorched-earth negotiations, so I wouldn't be surprised by him fabricating something to try to drive interest elsewhere.

Yes. If Wanyama has no intention of coming here then scorched earth makes perfect sense, but if there's still a chance of doing a deal with Southampton then I'd say being so scathing is unnecessarily risky.

Don't forget, all indications are that Modina is a complete arse of a man. He's merely acting to type. I'm pretty confident this will happen.

I'm not saying it won't happen, just that doing that seems stupid to me. My main hope with this saga is that one way or the other it gets sorted out fairly quickly.

He didn't call Cortese a liar or anything of that nature, nothing that would likely cause the deal to get pulled. And so long as he can assume that the deal is still there as a fall-back, there's not too much risk.

Simple solution, pay Wanyama's agents the £1.5 mil they want. Then put £1 mil on Wanyama to join Saints at 2/1. Make 500k out of the deal.

I've been through this argument before so I'll keep it fairly short. Saying it in such scathing manner achieves nothing that a more moderate statement couldn't so to me it's an unnecessary risk. That doesn't mean it wasn't a tactic.

They're pretty reliable. Nothing's certain yet but if so, I'll be upset to miss out on him. Cardiff certainly aren't afraid to splash the cash so I'd not be shocked if they were happy to throw money at the agent.

With your next article, you should slip in cockwomble somehow and see if they print it

I agree, there are tactics and then there are tactics, but this kind of response doesn't seem the kind to keep the deal alive. I think originally it was all about trying to get the 'big' clubs who were allegedly interested involved - when it materialised that the only other club who were happy to bid at that price was Cardiff (and would pay the agents fees) - they have now responded in the way they have to try and force the Cardiff deal through and discourage any further negotiation from us.

Agreed - Cardiff have lots of money and I get the feeling they will be happy to throw it about if necessary to buy some big name players.

How does it benefit them to have only one interested party? Surely they want to keep both alive as long as possible so they can play us off against each other?

not if we won't budge on the agents fees and Cardiff are happy to pay them. The agents see in Cardiff a chance to not only get the transfer fee they want, but also the agents and players fees they want - do the deal! Delays will muddy the waters and possibly impact on this. This is all about the agents

With respect to Cardiff, choosing them over Saints is a question purely of £. If he's operating on that level, then good luck and good riddance.

With respect, that is not showing respect to Cardiff. They are one year behind us, but they have a lot of money and a lot of ambition, assuming they are an inferior proposition to us is ignorance of exactly the kind we were bemoaning in other clubs' fans last year.

Just to point out that Cardiff do not have lots of money; they are £80 million in debt and all of the money being put in by the Malayasians is reportedly a loan, so there is a very good chance that if they overspend this sumer then they could go under very soon. They are playing a very risky game

I didn't realise it was a loan - I thought the Malaysians were simply bankrolling them a la Man City's owners - Yikes!
