A very warm welcome to everybody from Southampton, How are we? It has been reported that McDermott is planning on two more signings before Leeds fly out for their pre season matches in Slovenia. George Doors went on to say that terms were being discussed. Our first match is on Saturday 13th July against FC Domzale. This gives us about a week. Who do we hope / expect these signings to be? Blackpool have made a sneaky 1m offer for Ross McCormack. I must admit, we do not have an out and out goal scorer, and assuming Hunt will play on the wing, we are very thin on the ground with centre forwards especially when you consider Morison has been banished to the Den. How much would a club have to offer to prize away McCormack? Two Leeds academy players have signed professional contracts at Elland Road. Afolabi Coker and Smith Tiesse have both played an active part in the U18 squad that walked the league last season. It is pleasing to see that our youngsters are being looked after. A thread was posted yesterday about our board being infiltrated by the sarf London posy (or is that <cat>), I was wondering what our thoughts were on the Dens finest. Personally, I think they should be sent on a course to come up with some new one liners.....
Morning Elland I don't think anyone has any strong ideas to who these players could be, apparently we have agreed personal terms with both of em though just trying to negotiate a deal with the selling club which implies more money being spent Im hoping one will be a winger and one a strong commanding CB though As far a striking options, I think people seem to forget McCormack's ability in front of goal. He has scored a fair few in a season for Leeds and also for Cardiff. I really rate McCormack and think he is one of our more important players. For me, it'd take about 2.5 - 3m to sign him even then i'm not that sure as that mould of striker is hard to come by I got no issue with the wallies as I have said, sometimes good threads have been somewhat turned into just boring back and forths but its nice to have the banter with another club.
Morning Elland and all. Hopefully McD lands his remaining targets and then the focus for me will be keeping our current big three of Lees, Byram and Ross. If we manage that, it will have been a fantastic summer. Wonder if his remaining targets are all Irish? Our gang are increasingly nicely. As for the closet Leeds fans from sarf London, I hate to admit it, but forum would be a duller place without the, God bless them.
Morning all I'm sure Rosco will be leading the line for us this season, he's a confidence player we all know that and I think he has some pretty severe issues under Warnock last season, so we didn't see him at his best. 1m shouldn't be anywhere near enough to steal him away, I'd agree with Josh's valuation of around 2.5-3m New signings wise, if Hall won't play a role (and only BMD knows that) then definitely need a winger in for me. Maybe even if Hall will play a role. We seem to keep getting linked to CMs, that would allow us to move some players on, but a strong CB would be good also. As for our Den friends I like having them around, but they do badly need some new material at the minute. It can get a bit tiring when every single thread ends up being exactly the same!! But then again, they snap up everyone else's old unwanted players, so why not do the same with banter!!
Well put on all accounts Josh. To me McCormack is a luxury player. He misses too many. Yeah, I like the Millwall lads. I really miss the cross threads.... Morning btw
Morning Eire, If a visitor came to our board and heard us 'Blessing' the Millwall lads, fcuk knows what they would think
I don't really agree with you actually. I wouldn't consider him a luxury player, we do need some players with some creativity and I also don't think he misses too many chances. Someone was suggesting Varney will play a role and your saying Rosco misses too many chances
Morning Durham, That settles it. We'll send the Millwall lads on a course to learn some new one liners I like Ross, but if he misses a few chances, his head goes down...
Morning all, for me we need a CB. Our options seem limited, with Mills stating he wants to fight for his place at Bolton, Alex Pearce resigning for Reading until 2015 & Kilgallon set to join Blackburn. Could Matt Upson be our next player in?
I am left wondering exactly how many of Brians five identified targets we have signed or will sign? As for the mockneys they have turned this place from a football forum with occasional bit of banter, into a banter forum with a very occasional football thread. This is made worse because they just keep rehashing the same stuff that became unfunny the third or fourth time they posted it. Morning fellow Leeds fans!
Good Morning, also from Hampshire (unfortunately). The one good thing about this area is, there's no danger of getting tempted to become a glory hunter and follow a top local club, as there ain't any Its a footballing desert. On the Millwall crowd, I think its my fault, I've been too liberal tossing out the bonio biscuits for them to chase after. I can't resist those loveable little wagging tails. To be serious, they are a generally positive feature of the board, its a pity there is not more interchange with other clubs like this. However, they do seem to live here a bit, and it has got a little bit monotonous recently - banter gets boring if its the "same old" all the time. They might want to consider visiting their own board occasionally, or posting only when they have something particularly viciously undermining to say Not sure Ross is the full answer to our scoring problems, but we can't afford to lose him unless BM has something lined up- we don't know about, Exciting times, anyway. Not sure when you could last have said that. I think one reason is expectations have been so lowered (thinking about it, that is one achievement that Bates really can lay claim to) that the prospect of a season led by a decent mamnager who has been allowed to spend very modestly, and the chance of a strong push into the top half of the table, is enough to make me happy.
I reckon all 3 of em are. He has already stated that Murphy was one that he was wanting in early in the summer and we always knew he wanted Hunt as well. Seeings Smith signed so early I would say he was as well. Who says he had 5 identified targets anyway? He said that he wanted to sign 6 or 7 players in the summer (which I think we are well on course for) and then said that he was in talks with 5 players (which is what I'm assuming you are talking about). Managers are always talking to players during the window though and that doesn't even mean they make a move for a player they talk to
True, but the conversationns are always about sounding out targets, trying to unsettle players at their clubs or generally trrying to get the managers club. Unless they managers are trying to get some ****e to leave the club (please god).
Morning all, McCormack ability wise and attitude wise is exactly the type of player we need. We should turn down any bid for him no matter how big it is. It's makes a pleasant change when a Leeds United manager actually laughs off bids for our better players, as in BM's "which boot" comment. Compared to the Bates era when we accepted the first derisory offer that came along, turning down approaches instills just as much pride in the club as making our first £1M signing for eight years. Personal opinion re Millwall lads is that they're sound, and a good laugh
Morning all. I agree we need a winger, so I'm hoping maybe Rowe will be one of those new signings. As for McCormack, I've had my moans about him, but I rate him and I doubt he'd go if his comments are anything to go by. But unfortunately money talks, so you never know.
Oh I forgot to say I respect the Wall lads and enjoy the craic with them, they also have similar views to mine so that's a bonus...
Morning all. McD stated he still had seven targets AFTER he signed Smith, who was probably his bonus buy. McCormack is very talented, excellent touch and pass, and the boy can finish when he's confident. Can't believe Colin benched him for a stretch last season, as his "celebration" aimed at Wan-ker showed after scoring ... he was very frustrated by Colin's at times ridiculous team selections. McD will get Rosco firing for us, and it will be like a new signing. Two more coming in? Could be anybody now, no doubt McD will surprise us once again. Clearly there is a determination from the board to make sure McD has all the support he needs to deliver the £90m GFH need to get in order to sell their investment. Nothing like a huge reward to focus the mind. The Millwall lads are sound, great banter and never nasty. Much better than some of the idiots who have come on here and spouted drivel, at least the Wallies behave like gents. Yikes, did I really just say that?
I'd be tempted to sell McCormack if the money was right - £3m +. He'll be a 20 goal a season striker, but only if we play to his strengths and make the whole system revolve around him, which I'm not convinced we will. Still think we could do with one more striker in the Somma mould, because unless McCormack has a blinder of a season, I can't see a 20 goal a season striker there. As for the new signings, I've seen Mackay-Steven linked, he'd be top quality! A premiership team will probably take a punt on him though...but him and Chris Forrester would have our wings covered, then a natural goalscorer and a centre half and that makes McDermott's tally of 7 signings
