I take it everyone knows what happened with the deal to bring Douglas ( Brazilian centre half) to Newcastle and what joker Joe did?
Newcastle were signing the Brazilian defender Douglas from FC Twente, they'd been working on it for months, but as soon as Kinnear came in he binned the deal, on the grounds that he'd never heard of him. He'd just played in the Champions League and earned a call up to the Dutch squad(he switched citizenship). Derek Llambias resigned within hours.
If that's true then its unbelievable. Kinnear is suppose to be in charge of transfers and he's not heard of one of the best players in Holland?
Notwithstanding how amusing that all is, it's hard to take an article on a lack or accuracy seriously when they refer to 'Notts Forest'.
Douglas would have been a fantastic signing as well - decent replacement for the supposedly outgoing Coloccini - not to mention free. Ashley's probably only keeping him on to attempt to prove a point instead of going through the embarrassment of sacking him so quickly. I reckon he'd lose less respect if he just got rid now and held his hands up.
That's it in a nutshell. Apparently they'd made bids before but were knocked back. Douglas let his contract run down and as a result Newcastle were getting him for a lot less than they were originally prepared to fork out. Everyone was delighted with the deal and were chuffed to be signing a quality player. Then joker Joe rocks up, says he's never heard of him and pulls the deal. You'd struggle to make it.
Give what a rest? They write an article mocking someone for getting stuff wrong and then get stuff wrong in said article.
All this is good news for us, we need three teams worse than us to secure us next season. I suspect Newcastle are heading to be one of them, Stoke with Hughes could be another one and Di Caneo could help us with the third. I'll think we will have a good season but you have to look at options.
