Free agent Carlton Cole is reported to have a host of Premier League sides interested in procuring his signature for next season. The former West Ham striker was released from his contract at the end of last season, but is expected to be back playing Premier League football for the 2013/14 campaign, amidst speculation of pending interest from Crystal Palace, Hull City, Stoke, and Cardiff City. Cole, 29, spent seven years at West Ham United - making 237 appearances and scoring 59 goals. He became a cult hero during his time with the Hammers and admitted it was a big wrench for the side not to extend his contract. He was signed for West Ham from London rivals Chelsea in 2006, following three consecutive season-long loan spells to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, and Aston Villa respectively. The 6 foot 3 striker is an obvious aerial threat, while possessing a good first touch - making him a useful player in which to link attacks. Despite heavily featuring in the side which won promotion back to the Premier League in 2011/12, the England international was somewhat of a bit-part player last season. He made only 14 starts out of a possible 38 league games. But he now looks to have the chance to prove his Premier League worth in the coming weeks, with the aforementioned sides expected to formally approach the target man as they start pre-season training. Hull City appear the favourites as their manager Steve Bruce has been very keen on recruiting a side with vast Premier League experience. http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/crippy....mier-league-sides?team=Hull City&ref=facebook
Well if it came down to Carlton Cole or Grant Holt, I know which one I would prefer! Trouble is the fact that Cole does not command a fee might even that out. Perhaps Holt would demand lower wages??
Been told we spoke to Cole and he told us he'd prefer to join QPR as he wants to stay in London. As for Holt, was told we made an enquiry but Norwich currently want over £3million (might come down if Hooper goes to Norwich?) - Wigan have also made an enquiry about Holt. Same person said today that Hooper has told Norwich he wants to join them and Norwich want him, but need to raise some cash first, which is the only reason it hasn't gone through yet.
IMO, Carlton Cole will stay in London or go to the MLS. Grant Holt could end up at somewhere like Blackburn or Blackpool as both are closer to his home. Wife and kids already back in Cumbria.
Sorry, but i hope this is rubbish and we get Hooper he is exactly what we need. Won't be happy if he goes Norwich and we end up with Holt
Which one of those two will pay his Premier League wages though? Didn't he sign a new lucrative contract for Norwich last summer. Would presume a 3 year deal. Let's guess at £30k per week then that's £3m left owing to him plus whatever fee Norwich would want.
Grant Holt could also end up @ Wigan as they will have the Arouna Kone money to spend soon. Another club closer to Cumbria.
I thought Rochdale was Grant Holts level but surprised me that he stepped up a few levels since then - not good enough for Norwich now though in the PL and therefore shouldn't be good enough for us. Would prefer Cole but being a dyed in the wood Londoner, little or no chance of him coming up north IMHO.
Apologies but struggled with getting the spelling of the first bit of this metaphor right I ****ed up the last bit. Thanks for putting me right chaps.
Sure that "I just dyed in your arms tonight" was a hit by the Beech Boys since they played it live at Woodstock. then Twiggy covered it with a more rootsy version..
