Queens Park Rangers are reportedly close to agreeing a deal which will see them recoup their £12m January outlay on central defender Christopher Samba.

Hoops boss Harry Redknapp broke the club's transfer record to recruit Samba from Anzhi Makhachkala earlier this year, but the stopper failed to help QPR achieve Premier League survival.

Samba has agreed a lucrative return to Russia and former club Anzhi according to The Sun, with a deal expected to be finalised later this week.

Anzhi's bitter domestic rivals Zenit St Petersburg attempted to purchase the DR Congo international six months ago and have reportedly not given up the chase for his signature.

Redknapp is frantically attempted to rebuild his squad ahead of a Championship promotion push, with Julio Cesar and Loic Remy also reportedly close to securing moves away from Loftus Road.

A shame if true, could of been colossal for us in the Championship. Imagine the welcome back he'll get if his treatment before he left was bad. Hopefully it's not true for either of the parties.

According to the Sun I'd take it with a pinch of salt myself.

Making the same mistake twice?! I had higher hopes for Samba than that. Perhaps 'Arry is trying to hoodwink them into buying the other Samba for 12m instead.

Then on the other hand getting £12 mill back and freeing up £100k a week from the wage bill could get us 4 new players. I'm fine with Onuoha and Hill as CB's.

Exactly Sooper, that is the underlying issue here for which at this time of year .................. is a real worry.
How many people do you know that have ventured to the Siberian Desert and say that they are now considering going back?

Looks like he's gone, realistically it's a luxury you can't afford in that division. Having his wages off your books and the fee back in your account won't do you any harm and you should be able to recruit at least 3 players who will give their all for your team with that kind of money. Win-win for QPR.

QPR defender Christopher Samba will make a shock return to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for a fee of £12m, Sky sources understand.

The defender is one of relegated Rangers' highest earners but the club are set to recoup most of the club-record transfer fee they paid for his services in January.

Djibril Cisse has already left Loftus Road as Harry Redknapp reshapes his squad for the Championship, with further high-profile names such as Loic Remy expected to follow.

Samba arrived for £12.5m on a four-and-a-half deal with wages reported to be £100,000 a week - a figure that drew criticism from outsiders.

The former Blackburn player endured a difficult few months at the doomed London club and was drawn into a Twitter row with fans over his earnings after an error-strewn display in what proved a costly defeat to Fulham in April.

I didn't actually see him have one good game for us. Regardless of fitness, I thought he was very nervous on the ball and a bit of lump. His wages were ridiculous for us even in the Premiership, so completley unsustainable in the championship.

Let's just hope we don't replace him with Richard Dunne!!!

It's a lot of money and we're in the Championship, let's face the facts and get on with the season. Was thinking when I watched the video from training yesterday that this must be one expensive squad. This deal makes sense.

Hes not worth what ho cost and what hes being paid. Hes 29 so now is the perfect time to sell as he will be worthless at the end of the contract.

We could get an equal player for 25% of the fee and wages.

"wages reported to be £100,000 a week"

Still talking about 100k/w even after TF has stated that the highest wage in the squad was around 65k/w. Just shows you they only listen what they want to hear and ignore the rest.

Good bit of business from the club to get back the money they paid for him, hopefully bring in two/three players for that, disappointing with his displays & was never match fit anyway, won't forget that fulham match in a hurry!

I was one of the people creaming myself at us getting Samba and what did we get ?? An unfit, cart horse who's displays were at best inept and at worse downright shocking.

If its true and he has gone then see ya Chris....thanks for f*** all.

You might think there was some sort of agreement in place from the start. If we got relegated Samba would return. Deals these days are rarely paid in full so we have probably just paid a couple of instalments and either get these back or the slate is wiped clean. A six month loan deal in effect.

Anzhi will refund unwanted/relegated Sambas, returned with the original packaging and accompanied by receipt, within 6 months of purchase.

Had it confirmed that Christopher Samba is on the verge of rejoining Anzhi for £12million. #QPR have played an absolute blinder there.

    Nice one!

We never saw the best of him, but if he's been sold 3 times for more than £10m these canny 'football people' must know something we don't.

As long as we use this dosh to get players with premiership potential, fine. If we flood the squad with 'seasoned professionals' like Simpson - the most we can expect from him is effort - and hope that Adel and perhaps six months of Remy is enough to get us up, even if it succeeds we are back to square one next summer.
