I can well believe that abut fitness etc. Diet is part of it as well. I've heard similar about cricket, a sport that Indians obviously love. The standard of their fielding is generally lower than other countries (although to be fair that's changed a bit recently) and they also rarely produce fast bowlers.

I know cotton may be unsuitable for playing in, but surely it is not beyond the wit of man to make one shirt out of super high tech, lightweight, moisture grabbing material for the players, and another for the fans out of a quality fabric like cotton?

I expect their pitches aren't the best for fast bowling.

Yes that's obviously another significant factor, but the pitches in Pakistan aren't green seamers and they've consistently produced more fast bowlers. Another thing is that when India do produce a good fast bowler he will often get a lot of injuries (Munaf Patel, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma are all examples) and that limits their effectiveness. Part of the reason is a relative lack of fitness at a young age.

I'd like to think the shirt from Hollister is slightly better quality. I know stuff I get from Jack Wills feels better made than stuff from somewhere like Burtons.

[cough] Good question..! Mediocre kit, hence comparisons to mediocre teams. I'm going to suggest that we're more like 1979 Nottm Forest, but with white wings.

Brand is just another way of saying team, and everyone buys football shirts for the team. Except perhaps a few people who buy a kit just because they think it looks good regardless of the team (I doubt there's many people like that though).

Its a kit for gods sake. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you want stripes wear an old one or buy a retro one. Blokes shouldn't be getting all hung up about what to wear at football, what will it be next " does my bum look big in the new shorts". Stop acting like a load of tarts and like it or lump it.

thats not what they were inferring.

they were talking about the actual brand ie adidas. i dont care who makes the shirt, i am not buying it for the brand. ie its quite right that i should be angry that the same shirt cost me £40 two years ago and £42 a year ago.

If this is referring to me, of course it's about the team - you pay top dollar to have a Hollister bird stitched onto a top, as you pay top dollar to have the Southampton badge stuck on it. Why would I be talking about who made it?

Anyone who thinks sarcasm is the lowest form of wit is just not doing it right. Puns are the lowest form of wit.
