Is that just because he played for Sunderland, personally I think he could be a good signing for Newcastle on a short term basis. The thing with Villa is they have 2 good young strikers through who have linked up well together as well as linking well in a system with Agbonlahor, which helped Villa improve in the latter part of the season.

He's got to be better than Shola surely.( Hoping for someone bigger though as a major signing)

Personally the Darren Bent scenario is a catch 22! Better than our current 2nd, 3rd and 4th choices but for the price we could do better both as a short term proposition and as a long term proposition. Would he improve us, yes? But at what cost?!

Wouldn't want him as our second choice, there's got to be somebody better out there.

I think he is a good back up for Cisse if he needed to be rested or was injured. But like you say we need someone as an actual second choice, someone to partner Cisse and someone whom we can look to change our tactics with if we needed to in a game. Personally think if we got someone like Remy then Bent as 3rd choice would be just about acceptable (not at anything over £4M though)

If Bent was bought along with another striker of a higher class i would not be bothered he knows where the goal is and has at least 2 years left in him.As for him once playing for 5under1and look at Bracewell and Venison two great players for the toon.

    It's because he's ****, he's lazy and isn't worth the wages.

Don't know how people can argue with this if it happens. A proven goal scorer who has fallen out of favor at Villa simply because either the manager doesn't like him, or there is a clause which means they owe Sunderland more money if he plays more games (rumored). Or they have a better prospect in Benteke which is fair enough.

Even if we sign a quality striker we still need someone else. We have no other options when Cisse is out. Sign him on a sensible wage, along with a younger striker and I'll be happy.

Did you see him play for Sunderland, yes he's lazy but if we can sign someone who is capable of getting 20 goals a season it will make a big difference.

I wouldn't believe too much what you read in the papers Larry. Things are just a bit slow and they are angling for ourselves to give them something to get stuck into. At this stage there is no evidence to suggest Kinnear has overruled anything, who his or Pardews targets are (or if they are indeed different), and whether they get on or not.

Personally I hope Bent stays where he is, never rated him.
