With regards to the swimming pool Reg, I admit i'm no legal expert but could they not just make people sign disclaimers?
I believe it was one of those big Isuzu's, so probably did have seven seats, not that it made any difference, the insurance company didn't believe a word they were saying. Unfortunately, as is often the case, it's cheaper to settle than it is to fight the claim. The insurance wasn't in her name, she was a named driver on her mum's car and they wouldn't renew with her as a named driver.
The insurance companies will continue to make their profits, it's not them who pay for fraudulent claims, it's us. Burglar.
I have not read all the replies but a similar thing happened to my Mrs a few years ago. We were going to just get the car repaired and send the other person the bill. It was a young girl who had just passed her test and so we thought it would be best to just sort it out directly and not go through insurance. Next thing we know the girls mum is saying its our fault and has instructed her insurance to claim against us and all sorts. To make things worse she started calling us up with threats. So we went through the proper channels, in the end it all got sorted and we got the car repaired.
