I've been a bit of a no show recently due to my new job. This is unacceptable. This forum has become less ****ing sexy since I've been away.

    Onto my point -

Man Utd beat City by a significant points total last season. How many of those points were achieved by games won by set plays?

Man Utd do not play sexy football. They don't pass it about beautifully, they just pick out the right players in the right places with the right deliveries.

They won several games by set piece goals last season, and they pretty much debunk Pardew's ******ed theory that "you need one or two players around 6ft 4". LOL.

    Evra scored 5/6 and he's 5ft 8.

Robin Van Persies deliveries + good routines got Man Utd a lot of points in games where they could not break teams down.

    --------------------------------

Onto a slightly different point - Did anyone see Manure vs Villa this season? Did you see RVP's goal?

A 60 yard long ball from Rooney, volleyed by Van Persie. No one touches passes, no skill moves, just a great delivery and whack! A goal.

I'm sick of everyone thinking that Barcelona/Swansea/Liverpool/Man City passing style football is the be all and end all of good football. It isn't.

    What matters is winning games.

Look at what the German teams are doing. I'm not saying they cannot pass the ball around, they play some great stuff, but their style has become similar to the old Italian style of football.

Slightly defensive, organised and controlled. No overabundance of sexy skills or one touch orgamsic passing moves, just solid football, and embracing many different routes to goal.

Thought that had always been the German way.

This is the thing with Man U they are extremely adaptable. They are able to mix it up to get the result. That comes from immense organisation. Doest hurt when you got Van Persie up to of course!

Personally I would rather watch a team that plays in the style of man u or the german teams mentioned here than barcelona for instance but thats personal preference.

The thing with Man U, and the German teams who i have watched, is that however they play, they play quickly. Any attack is made at a pace which the defence cannot deal with. Compare that to the Rodgers '7345 touches to move 10 yards up the pitch' method and its obvious which is superior.

The time when we did best last year was when we were doing things at pace (the first half of the West Brom game is a brilliant example)

Man Utd and Liverpool are two teams I will always watch in Europe, they're a cut above, whoever is in their strips. We've had some decent forays, but quite frankly I can't believe any neutral would turn on one of our games and watch. We had some decent results last year, and some good performances, but honestly it must be an abysmal watch for those who don't give two s***s about our players or club. We're horrible to watch and have been for a long time in major cup competitions.

Makes them 4-4 results a tad more special though.

You weren't one of the guys that missed the game and stayed behind at the pub chatting the young girls behind the bar up were you Darth Gogledd. I noticed they came along to the coach after the game to say goodbye.

West Brom seemed to bully us about a bit at the Hawthorns.

    More physical than us.

Slightly biased here because i am Man United supporter for over fifty years, but you are right about the adaptability. If we play a team that "park the bus" we try to play through them, if we play a football team we go above and around them with speed. The object is to get the ball to the opposition goal by any way avaiable.

Quite simple really, why hasn't Pards worked it out?

Give him some credit. He has worked what you're meant to do, he just can't quite get his ideas to cross over the line.

I think the best thing about pards first full season was how adaptable and varied we were in our approach to games. We had very clearly defined methods for each games, and players seem well drilled on the plan. Fast forward a season and that trend continued in our European campaign, where we equipped ourselves very well. However the league was a different matter! We were disjointed, had no plan B and looked a poorly prepared team. Pards has to prove that he can get us back to what served us well, and then if we do get another bite of the European cherry, show that he has learnt something from a chastening first experience of Europe/PL juggling.
