And now for something completely different, lyrics, say up to a couple of lines which you think are really good and stand out in your respective record collections.

I would like to offer two for a start to get the thread going......

Hate the new boss, same as the old boss (The Who, Won't Get Fooled Again) Simple human feeling of the grass is greener to find that it isn't

You aint the nazz, you're just a buzz, some kinda temporary (Mott The Hoople, Hymn For The Dudes) Don't overinflate your opinion of yourself and you are quickly forgotten.

Hope this flies, over to you

The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?

Pink Floyd - Have a cigar

Shows just how insular the American's were (and still are)

I would guess there are loads from PF that could crop up on here, just about every album contains songs with some deep meaning with genius writing by Syd, Roger and Dave <ok>

My head was beating like a song by by the Clash it was writing cheques that my body couldn't cash (Richard Thompson) a familiar feeling we have all had!

life seems so rosy in the cradle, but I'll be your friend I'll tell you what's in store. There's nothing at the end of the rainbow there's nothing to grow up for anymore (Richard Thompson) says it all!

From Procol Harum's 'Whiter shade of pale'

The room was humming harder,
As the ceiling flew away.
When we called out for another drink,
The waiter brought a tray.

I'm told Keith Reid and Gary Brooker were as high as kites when they wrote that <laugh>

Three Lions - Lightening Seeds

"It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
(x4)

Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know
They're so sure

That England's gonna
Throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know they can play
Cos' I remember

Three lions on the shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
30 Years of hurt
Never stoppped me dreaming
"

Think this sums up every single England fan's mindset for the Euros/World Cup. Epic!

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?

Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We’ll just pass him there
Why should we even care?

In tribute to the ref at the emirates, Ozzy Osbourne - Iron man

"You've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above" - Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love

Hotel California by The Eagles is a lyrical masterpiece.

On a flat roof,
There's a boy standing against a wall of rain,
Aerial held high,
Calling "come on thunder, come on thunder"
(James- Sometimes)

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

The verve - drugs don't work.

Are we etched in stone or just scratched in the sand
Waiting for the waves to come and reclaim the land?

Tightrope - the stone roses

Break me in,
Teach us to cheat
And to lie, cover up
What shouldn't be shared?
All the truth unwinding
Scraping away
At my mind
Please stop asking me to describe -Citizen Erased, Muse

You start a conversation you can't even finish,
you're talking a lot, but you're not saying anything.

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer.
Probably even more poignant today than in 1977 when David Byrne wrote them.

Also - if I'm allowed two, :emoticon-0112-wonde

It's coming on Christmas,
they're cutting down trees,
they're putting up reindeer,
singing songs of joy and peace,
oh I wish I had a river, I could skate away on.

Joni Mitchell - River, documenting a recently failed relationship.

Blimey, he said "great lyrics", not lyrics to exit life with.

I'm going to dig through my "Now that's what I call music 5" allbum and bring you a pearler about love and hapiness. Standby.

Song about love?

"She's one in a dozen,
But have you seen the state,
Of the other eleven?"

aint no money aint no woman aint no roof above your head
so you lay down in the park and you wish that you were dead
the fuzz says you are trespassing and kicks you in the jaw
you don't have to be in the army to fight in the war

Mungo Jerry

Van Gogh did some eyeball pleasers
he must have been a pencil squeezer

From the same song, these lyrics are better...

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

<ok>

There are places I remember all my life, though some have changed.
Some forever, not for better, some have gone and some remain.

In my life - Beatles
