We aren't going to sacrifice the third central midfielder very often, especially not in this division.
I might wanna add something but is no one considering Brady as LF ? considering how he played in our last game.
Afternoon all, It wouldn't surprise me if we're still very interested in Hooper, you don't make 3 bids in January if you aren't interested. Whilst we've signed Wolfswinkel, if anything happens to him we've only got an ageing Holt and a misfiring Becchio on our books, In terms of our budget, the need to sell to buy is nonsense. For starters the Wolfswinkel money supposedly came from last seasons budget, and we're supposed to have our largest ever transfer budget this summer, which is maybe around £15m, £20m tops. I wouldn't rule out sales, but I doubt we'll let first-teamers like Pilks go for anything close to their real value, especially as in his case we have nobody else in the squad who can play there. Judging by our bid for Redmond, its somewhere we want to strengthen.
4 million may be a lot to us but to many clubs in this league its penny's, We certainly don't want to get into debt like last time but i am afraid a forward who gets goals is costly and could make the difference between staying up and going down. A good free agent usually has plenty of options in which case its down to wages. I also think we need two decent strikers because has we all know scoring in the championship was a problem last season. Lets hope the club knows what its doing and manage to get the balance right and get the strikers in there is still plenty of time yet
Could not agree more. Now that really is an exciting prospect for us and a worry for other teams. Fryatt off the bench. Impact sub. You can never have too many strikers who can score goals especially in the PL. Agree with ^^^^ this as well. Yes we shall in some games. Steve Bruce does have a horses for courses policy which i like.
Yeah, apparently Huggy Bear got the keys to the Gran Torino and totalled it!! Starsky was so pissed off he shot him in the leg and now Hutch is trying to straighten it all out with Captain Dobie.
This looks spot on to me. We have not spent a huge amount considering this is season 3 in the PL so I would think that we have a fair bit in reserve if needed. We also hae just cleared off all external debt and have £60m+ coming in next season (as have you boys) so we are not exactly short of a bob or two. Hooper knows he was our top target in January so it won't be a shock to see us bid again even though we have strengthened by purchasing Van Wolfswinkle we have lost Jackson and Martin and Vaughan will almost certainly leave as well so we are not overly flushed with forwards. I would not be at all surprised if Hooper joined us to see Holt moving the other way as it would put him nearer his family and he would score a hatful in Scotland and win lots of medals with Celtic.
100% agree, both playing at Championship level & both can step up. How many times have we seen a player who has stepped up from a lower league & then regretted not making a move. Austin in particular at NPC level, we had the chance but went for McLean instead. Do we go for it this time or miss out & regret it again?
I've counted LeFondre, Austin, Mackail Smith, Sharp and McGregor (we were interested in him last Summer before he went to Turkey) pass us by and perform at a higher level. It's a trend we have to buck in order to compete; I remember us passing on Austin at Swindon and going for Rowan Vine instead. If we really want them, we should bid a bit more than we are doing (only a little, we don't seem too far off either valuation) and just go for it. We very rarely 'win the race' for players, it'd be nice to see us get all of our primary targets this Summer.
If you believe that sell before we buy thing. you will believe anything! Complete nonsense from a nonsense paper. As for Hooper, our CEO said in February that RvW and Hooper will remain top targets for the summer... We have one, now just waiting for the other... p.s good business with the Curtis Davies deal
This reminds me of le fondre, when someone asked on here whether he would be good for us or not loads said no because he couldn't make the step up. We are in a strong position at the minute and I'd love us to just go for it (without going too mad on prices).
Tickler spent all last season saying Cardiff would bottle it. He spent all the previous season saying Southampton would bottle it. In short, he's completely deluded and he eats too many pies.
