  1. He slags off the owners like every Newcastle United fan does, for valid reasons.

If Mike Ashley is a fascist piece of scum, and doesn't agree with a persons right to free speech, it's not Barton's fault.

Fat cockney bastard, get out of our club!

I think he's been totally daft in speaking out the way he has, pretty pathetic attitude when he's lucky to have the contract he does! Let's be honest, would any other club in the EPL be prepared to buy him anyway? His agent's taken a right risk with this

See, this is a ****ing ridiculous statement.

The club is financially stable for the first time in god knows how many years. They have clear goals for the club to acheive and they appear to finally be backing a manager who although was never our first choice hasn't actually done a bad job.

What would you rather he do, hand over ridiculous amounts of money to anyone who dares to speak out in the press? Bow to their every whims?

1 good season in 4 doesn't make you indispensible to the club. I'd love Joey to stay, but i can also see the bigger picture. Take your 'I Hate Ashley' blinkers off and have a word with yourself.

This. Joey owes the club A LOT. We stuck by him when no one else would have. In his 4 years here, he's assaulted someone, been to prison, nearly broke Alonso's leg and punched MGP in the chest. I understand where MA is coming from not wanting to pay someone £40/50k a week for 4/5 years after what happened in the first four he's been here. Whilst I agree he seems like a changed man, it's still a massive risk to take and slagging the club off almost certainly won't have helped the situation

Forgetting the fact Mike Ashley is out chairman, if you were in his shoes and one of your players was slagging you off relentlessly, would you extend their contract???

Doubt it!! He has manufactured his own way out!!!

If it's a footballing based decision, you'd still offer him a contract but it would be purely on Ashley's terms, which i would imagine is £40k per week for 2 years with the option of a one year rolling extension thereafter based on performances and appearances.

If he doesn't want that, then flog him. You don't run a business by being held to ransom by your staff!

I'm pretty sure Barton will be here next season, its all very well accepting an offer but he is contracted to the club and is within his right to reject a move. It will also be a parting blow to Ashley that he wont see any of that 5.8mil spent on Barton back.

Is there a way he could be sacked whilst we hold on to his registration until end of contract?

Possibly some loophole, but I think Ashley would already know about it.

What on earth would be the point of that? Give it 2 months and 'fans' will be complaining that Ashley is pissing money away.

If he stays he should play. If he plays **** then bench him. He should be treated like a normal member of the squad.

If he is sacked then he wouldn't be paid?! plus with some of our fans (like all clubs fans) they will be moaning at Ashley anyhow

If you "sack" a player you have to pay off his contract anyway. You might as well let him stay and bolster the squad than pay him a years wages in bulk and then have to pay to replace him.

Depends, misconduct generally implies something you've done within the confines of your workplace. Only in extreme cases can you just tear up a contract like Lee Hughes or Marlon King.

Whatever, he may have been one of our best performers but he has been gradually declining towards the end of the season, particularly since the departure of Carroll. He was instrumental to this season's style of play, but where were all his lofted balls going when Carroll wasn't there to put his head on them? If NUFC want to play football next season then he can easily be replaced as he's not that good on the ball and not a great passer along the ground. Yes he's got a tenacious, hard-tackling, never-say-die attitude but that's all everyone really bums him for when you think about it.

The time to start griefing Ashley is if or when Barton leaves and he is not adequately replaced. For the mean time we should just hold on and see what happens.
