Ashley doesn't want to run the risk of having Barton tied down to the club for a long time and just suddenly falling off the cliff when age hits him
Look at Smith 50-60k(?) and looked great last year start of this year but is now just a squad player on 4 times as much as he should be

All this talk about him excepting a pay cut may be true, but i'm sure if he went down to 30k or so (a big step admititly) then Ashley would offer him one

  2. I'm not going to weary of Barton's future performances based on Alan Smith's fall from grace.

I could just as easily say look at Giggs, 39 and still flying higher, but that doesn't mean Barton will be playing to that age either.

Barton deserves a 4 year contract and will still be one of our best players, even if we do sign Gameiro, Gervinho and who ever else.

He's also a massive figure in the dressing room. We shouldn't be letting the heart of the team leave, or else things will collapse inwards on us.

Mike Ashley is willing to take risks - http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Footbal...hairman_wants_to_be_a_bit_risky_about_it.aspx

He simply doesn't like Barton, and doesn't want to pay wages from his own wallet. Simple as.

Giggs isn't 39. And isn't anywhere near as good as in his prime.

True, i really doubt they get on well and yes, Barton does deserve a new contract, I'm just trying to see it how Ashley must

Am i the only one who thinks Giggs has been **** for while now (and anyway he's 37)

  5. 37, and maybe he's not in is prime anymore... but... for ****s sake he can still make it in the Man Utd side and walk the walk mate.

Barton is 28 and when his contract ends he'd be 32. Anyway you're only as old as you feel, i think Barton has another good 5/6 years in him to be honest.

I agree with you tbh, think he's got plenty of time left! But anything could happen, give him a 4 year deal and he could go downhill after this season. From a business perspective it doesn't make sense offering a 4 year deal.

Giggs and Scholes were on 1 year rolling deals for the last 3 years or so im sure.

Giggs and Scholes are the exception rather than the rule.

You could just as easily go:

"Sol Campbell, 36 and still flying high - oh"

Could go downhill, get an injury, assault someone (although he's changed his tune, to a businessman, Barton has a history, and to be fair it can't just be ignored).

Do you actually think that Barton's wages are coming out of Ashley's wallet?

The club as has been stated previously are trying to use Arsenal as a model of how to run a club well, and Arsenal do not offer any player over the age of 30 more than 1 year deals, so this would fall in line with only offering Barton a 2 year deal. We have only heard 1 side of the story, so rather than just jumping on the Ashley is a c**t bandwagon I'll just sit back and wait and see what happens over the summer. And if Barton (Willie Mckay) really does want to stay at the club maybe he (they) will approach the club and say actually i will sign the 2 year deal. As the club did with Saylor they are not being held to ransom by players (agents) anymore as we were under FFS.

Maybe the beloved Barton should stop calling Ashley a twat in all these personal appearances if he was wants Mike Ashley to award him a new contract. Just a thought.

Sometimes your judgement is so clouded HMT it beggars belief... I'm not disagreeing he has been tremendous for us this season but as many people have pointed out he could pitter out after a season, get a severe injury (or just a simple foot **** up again)... or give another jab or maybe more to another player (a la MGP), go back to jail. If he wanted to stay, he could have signed the contract that he was offered (assuming there was one i have no idea, but i'd imagine there was as it's been reported multiple times just differences in contract length).

Spot on. At the end of the day, Barton has a history that cannot be ignored by a businessman, yet the club has nurtured him and given him opportunities (which he has eventually taken, good on him). Whilst all was going fine and dandy he's been fine, as soon as contract negotiations stall he's straight to chucking his dummy out of the pram and slagging the boss, which just isn't the done thing. You just can't react like that and expect everyone to show you respect and hand you a contract on a plate. Barton needs to remember how lucky he is, I'd be doing cartwheels if I was on 40-50k a year!

Barton has even said he'd take a large pay cut.

  18. Yeah mate, but from 65k to 50k. <ok> Which is still want Ashley wants players to do but for some reason doesn't want Barton on a 4 year contract.

How many times have thrown a wobble over people calling you names (English piece of ****), made comments about your mad hatred for not Jonas not waving at you, having a go about Girlzilla, been hunted by terrorists, or people simply pointing out you're an attention whore?

You don't even employ any of these people.

Ashley does employ Barton and pays him £65,000 a week, £3,380,000 a year and has to put up with Barton slagging him off, calling him various names etc and yet you can't understand why Ashley is in no rush to give Barton a contract?

I'd give the contract in a heartbeat and I was his biggest detractor before last year. Barton is like a lightly raced horse too, unlikely his level will drop over the next few years. He has had a lot of time off in his career (!) and keeps himself extremely fit. He is tea total aswell. Better to judge him on the Giggs/Scholes level fitness wise. I don't think that is the issue and to be honest I'm not even sure money is. they want him gone and will get their wish. HMT - I wouldn't get upset with it mate, what will be will be while Jabba is in charge. I don't like at all, he has brought untold shame on our club and the regime was exposed as a bunch of lying toads sometime ago. But it is what it is and we might aswell just support whichever team is on the pitch. it's a shame but we are what we are under him.
