http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ed-a-fee-for-Le-Havre-defender-Benjamin-Mendy Sky Sports understands Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Le Havre defender Benjamin Mendy. It is understood that Sunderland have agreed a fee with Le Havre for the full-back and have been given permission to hold talks with the player about a move to the Stadium of Light. The 18-year-old has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Cardiff, but now Sunderland are in pole position to land the left-back. Mendy has also attracted the interest of French clubs such as Marseille and Lyon, but the player is keen to try his luck in England. Paolo Di Canio has already brought seven new faces to the Stadium of Light and he is hoping to make Mendy his eighth new signing and the Frenchman will help fill the void left by Danny Rose's return to Tottenham. Suggests no Danny Rose but 18-19 year old, could come good!
Know nowt about the lad, but sounds promising if he's attracted other interest and been properly scouted.
Were'nt the horse bashers linked with him? They must of stepped aside or paud for his flight or something

5 million plus for a bairn plying his trade in Ligue 2, a bit of a gamble in my opinion ( and trust me it will be at least 5 million plus as The Gunners were told to double their 2.75 million bid for him )
No deffinitive youtube clips to be found! I'm out Found a clip which says he's class on footy manager and fifa! I'm in
A strong candidate to fill the vacant left-back position in recent weeks has been the highly-sought Le Havre fullback Benjamin Mendy, and whilst things appeared on the outside to be cooling a little, the player himself and his club's president have both been talking to the press and made some comments which has made ours and Sunderland's ears prick up. In speaking with French radio station RMC, president Jean-Pierre Louvel said of his player; We are talking to clubs and the talks with English teams are going better than others. He is most likely going to go and play in England. Suggesting that any potential moves to stay in France with either Lyon or Marseille, who have both been linked, or even Italian giants Juventus, are dead in the water. To back up his president, Mendy himself said he is relishing the prospect of playing in England, also telling RMC; I have always dreamt of playing in England so I am happy to be linked with English clubs. I know it is a big step to go there straight away, but if you want to progress in Europe you need to play at the top level. It's known that we are one of the interested parties, while it has also been suggested that Cardiff City are another fan of Mendy. Any purported fee would be in the region of £2m for the 18-year old with 1-year left on his current contract. Some reports last night claimed that Juve had a big of £2.5m rejected, with Le Havre "holding out for more", obviously not taking into account the fact he is a year away from walking out for free. El-Hadji Ba also arrived at Sunderland from Le Havre recently, and at a similar age and ability, his tribunal was set reportedly at the £400,000 mark. So a fee in the region of £2m would be fair for acquiring the services of Mendy. Flush with cash from the Simon Mignolet deal, we can expect interest in top targets to be stepped up immediately by Paolo Di Canio and his crew, as in the wake of the Belgian's departure the manager promised this money would help us land top targets. The ball is very much now in the hands of the club to get deals over the line.
Didn't we sign John Byrne from Le Havre? I loved him. Lovely bloke as well and simply couldn't say no when me and my mates knocked on his door asking if he wanted a kick about!! Hope the lad is relatively as good
Word is it its done David Craig on ssn Just said Mendy expected to sign & the 3 keepers we're looking at are Al-Habsi, Mannone & Zoet
Le Havre confirm acceptable Sunderland offer FRENCH side Le Havre have confirmed they have accepted an offer from Sunderland for left-back Benjamin Mendy. Reports last night suggested Sunderland had reached an agreement with Le Havre for the 18-year-old, who has also attracted the attention of Arsenal, Lyon and Cardiff. Le Havre president Jeanne-Pierre Louvel has confirmed the deal and says it is now down to Mendy to agree terms with the Black Cats. “We have agreed with Sunderland for the transfer of Mendy,” he said. “Today, the only club with which we agree is Sunderland and now it’s up to Benjamin Mendy to make a choice. “ Mendy would become the second player from Le Havre to arrive at Sunderland this summer with the Wearsiders already agreeing a Bosman move for midfielder El-Hadji Ba.
