If I remember correctly when Short came in he wanted to spread the knowledge of the club to countries to try and get some hype about us Now admittedly whilst the team hasn't exactly performed to help with this, he has actually accomplished what he set out to do South Korea/Africa the club has bought a player or a few to get more recognised and then been affiliated with certain companies/charities such as the American South Korean Sailing team or Invest in Africa Due to PDC's arrival and current transfer reports we are after quite a few young players in Serie A, and according to some threads on this forum there are articles saying we are actually becoming a bit of a topic of conversation for Italian fans as not many English clubs look to the Italian league for young talent Even when he first bought the club Ellis put us up on times square advertising our new Home strip Would argue that if the team gets at least a mid-table status next year, it will work wonders for our PR department in each of the nations/continents Lets hope he can continue the magnificent job and possibly get us some more investment!
Did mind Bob Murray, more in hindsight then at the time. He ran the club well on a shoestring but Ellis is someone else. We could have done a Man City with us which would have been nice for us to watch but would have striped our club of it's integraty. He's doing a cracking honest job imo.
Bob Murray is a pauper in comparison to Shorts wealth mate. I have given Murray a far better thought as I got older about his management of our club and remember, he built a fantastic stadium and world class training facilities, without any debt attributed to the club long term. He also sold out to Quiinys consortium for a nominal fee to ensure we were aquired by good people and that led to Shorts coming in. I'd shake his hand if I ever got the opportunity and say thanks to him now.
My first words should have been Didn't, not did. Agree 100% mate. My dad hated him, but died just after the the new stadium was built, so he had no idea of the above points, my judgement was clouded by my father at the time. When Bob leaves this earth a permanent tribute must be a priority.
I too was a critic of Murray for building the stadium when I thought he should be spending what little money we had on the team. Turns out he was right and I was wrong. When Leeds United were splashing money about I always remember him saying; "Let's see where Leeds are in ten years time, and let's see where we are". Like Cest I will always be grateful that he sold to genuine people when he could personally have made a lot of money.
We have to do a Man c, I am 53 now and getting impatient, we have not moved on in 6 seasons so when will it start, and Leeds have played in the champions league though and we have not. And Murray had the chance to bring Brian clough here !, enough said about him.
Citeh is a Trainwreck waiting to happen. My love of Sunderland goes way deeper wanting attractive football and hand bought titles. I want my great great grand kids to have this club to support a 100 years from now.
1. So you would now swap places with Leeds then? 2. Sorry, but Collings was the chairman who interviewed Clough for the manager's job, not Murray, when Clough made his "I would walk over broken glass to manage Sunderland" remark. Clough was settled in Nottingham when Murray became chairman.
