Former safc just been named pfa Scotland manager of the year after leading Queen of the South to promotion.

Future SAFC manager? Imagine he'll be attack minded and will like a skilful player or two in the team.

I see that Magic will be managing Kilmarnock in the SPL next season.

One of the most exciting players I've ever seen and with Summerbee, Phillips and Quinny formed the best attacking front line in my 39 years following the club.

Future manager? Who knows but he would make a popular one thats for sure.

Jinky made a comment about his boyhood idols and Reidy (as he always did) handled the situation extremely badly and just sulked with him. I reckon things could have been handled far better at the time.

Only partially true, he said he wouldn't sign a new contract as he wanted to go free to Rangers, and tried to force Reid to release him on the spot.

Reid declined, but refusing to play him was pathetic, he was some boy.

Reidy is the ultimate paradox for me.

Gave me the best 3 or 4 years of sublime football I have witnessed as a SAFC fan but he is also one of the managers of SAFC I loathe the most.

I agree in part mate, his self proclamation and importance was his downfall, but I did like the fella, and I'll never forget the love of going to the match, counting down from the final whistle to the next one.

Never had it before or since.

Yes, as you have both explained very well, this is a tricky one. However, at the end of the day I sided with Reid on this, and think Johnston did the dirty on us.

Fantastic player at the time, but I wouldn't welcome him back as a manager.

Reidy was right in principle, wrong in practice.

Johnston should have played no matter what for his ntalent, but Reidy was right to give him a big '**** you kid'.

Not too sure he would be popular...yes him and Gray down the left, Summerbee and Makin on the right, with Quinn and Phillips up front....best attacking football i have seen in my time as a supported... But he really soured his stay with us the way he ****ed us about in his last year wanting a move to Rangers, then he did absolutely nothing when he finally moved. Popular, i think not, poetic justice, most definitely!!!!

    True Paolo !

His treatment of Thomas Helmer was astonishing to say the least. Just because this quality German sweeper/central defender gave suggestions for MORE training, he was seemingly cast out. He only played once or twice and was never seen again in a Sunderland shirt.

    ....Strange !!

Aye, Helmer had no pedigree like, 400 games for Dortmund and Bayern and 70 or so for Germany, Reidy definitely had his value right, haha.

A Sunderland lad, Lee Robinson, played in goal for Queen of The South last season under Johnston. Apparently Johnston told him that the biggest mistake he ever made in his footballing career was to leave Sunderland.
Robinson has just gone to a club in Sweden by the way.

    Gotta agree mate.

And it was a massive blow for us, he did little of note at Rangers, and considering where we were at the time, if he'd stuck around we may have sneaked Europe the following year with Hutch adding the missing ingredient to CM.

I honestly think if we'd had them in the same side we'd have been there, Johnston, Schwarz, Hutch & Summerbee could have been the midfield with everything, supplying SNQ & SuperKev.

I'd love to have seen it.
