If the toss had happened after the rain came (and hence we'd knew about the reduction in overs before naming our XI), then I wouldn't have been surprised if we'd stuck with Finn ahead of Bresnan (likewise, Bairstow would possibly have started ahead of Bell or Trott).

If the England reply is not interuppted by the weather they want shooting if they can't score about 6 runs an over for 20 overs.

I didn't think you could have C/L if it is less than 20 overs. I could very well be wrong though!

No reason to rejig the batting order. Indeed if anything, keeping it as it is will be the most sensible decision. The only way India win this is by bowling us out, and invariably that means taking early wickets. So just as long as Cook, Bell and Trott get us off to solid start, we should be alright.

But loose a few early ones, and I could see the middle order being tied in all sorts of knots by India's spinners, and us dying a slow death.

You can't. It's 20 overs, or no result. D/L is therefore a complete irrelevance here.

Our innings needs to be completed for there to be a result I believe.

    According to wikipedia:

For 50-over matches, each team must face at least 20 overs before D/L can decide the game, and for Twenty20 games, each side must face at least five overs before D/L can decide the game.

Could this count as a T20 game! :emoticon-0103-cool:

They don't need to slog, just play proper cricket shots and run hard and pick up ones and twos...they have been lucky to have the best of the weather so far.

I'm caught in two minds, wickets in hand will set us up well for our lower batsmen, but if we are going at 4/5 an over and have work to do when the spinners are bowling I worry. Ideally would be nice for us to both keep wickets in hand and decrease the run rate. <laugh>

Unfortunately Vince is going through a bad trot at the moment, in both formats. And he started the season so well, too. But he's only young, and all batsmen go through bad patches. That said, t20 isn't always the best format to try and regain your form in!

It's quite scary though that England haven't given Carberry a chance in ODI cricket yet, especially considering that it's Bell who opens with Cook.

Carberry is THE form opener in white ball cricket and has been for 2 years, I agree it seems crazy that he hasn't been selected for England.
