So in Mignolet's shoes, what is the best move. If Reina stays and Mig becomes a second choice then how is that going to get him recognised for the national side? It is screaming bad bad move for the lad in my opinion (football wise)!

Hope he doesn't go to Liverpool! Hate them with a passion

if hes not going to be number one he should stay and play every game for us. we keep hearing its so he can become the belgiun number one but for me if your not number one after the season he's just had then maybe its not going to happen. sitting on the bin dippers bench wont help him

Why move to sit on the bench this just doesn't make sense, Scousers might of shot them selves in the foot with this comment.

It's his choice. If he moves & warms the bench he's got no one to blame but himself.
That said, I wish the lad luck.

Lets not forget that he will get paid an awful lot more than he does now. His agent will make a killing in the move, far more than if he stays. Why would his agent advise him to stay and lose out???

well because hes meant to look after hios best interests. if his disire is to be the belgium number 1 then staying and playing is the best thing for him. his agent would get paid if he signs a new deal just not as much as if he moved. the players interests should come first not the agents wallet

From what Rodgers said, it seems like Mignolet has been on the cards for months. He talks about going for a meal with Pepe and telling him about it before the end of the season.

It is strange. I think it's the club trying to maximise the fee for Reina, and the player liking the club enough to play along.

I can't for the life of me understand this move for Mig. Neither clubs are in Europe (one is probably in free fall and about to lose their best player). Ok, the stature of Liverpool can not be undermined. They are a huge club. That said, in a WC year when your rival is playing for a CL club, would he not be better off playing regularly at Sunderland than making the sideways (which it currently is footballing wise) step without the guarantee?

£11m? Still thinks it too low but once hes gone I couldn't give a **** whether he never plays for anyone again really? Once he isn't our player I no longer care whether his career stalls, falters or totally collapses.

I'll give him a cheer if he ever returns but apart from that I genuinely don't give a flying **** once they are no longer wearing my teams colours.

    I call agent bullshit!

Liverpool have yet to agree a deal with Sunderland to sign goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to the player's agent.

The two clubs had reportedly agreed a fee in excess of £11m for the Belgium international, who has won 13 caps for his country.

But the 25-year-old's representative, Guy Vandermissen, says he has still not been informed from either club that a deal has been done.

"I know the qualities of Simon and he can cope with any competition, it is no problem."
    Guy Vandermissen
He said: "We hope that there can be a deal and he can go to Liverpool.

"If you go from Sunderland to Liverpool it is a big step forward. You have to make decisions at certain times."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists Mignolet would have to compete with Pepe Reina and will not be his replacement.

Vandermissen, though, says Mignolet would relish the competition with Reina for the No 1 shirt.

He said: "I know the qualities of Simon and he can cope with any competition, it is no problem."

    Reina welcomes Mignolet
Mignolet hopes his next move will help him win the No.1 slot for the international side.

He is in competition for that jersey with Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan at Atletico Madrid from Chelsea.

A move to Liverpool would not mean European football, but Vandermissen does not see that as a problem.

He said: "When you play Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal every week, this is European football, so what is the problem?"

The days of players being loyal and sticking with their club are long gone mate and so are my loyalties to managers, players, owner or whatever. Tired of being ****ed over by agents, players and so forth.

The game has changed so much in the last 20 years and its just a money grabbing frenzy every year now. Not content with £20k or £30k per week, players will **** a club over for even more. I don't believe for one minute Migs desire is purely a professional playing one as he is an established number one at a now established EPL club already. It will be all about the extra £10k or £20k a week he will be paid and if thats also just to sit on a bench he will be happy with it?

So, once they leave I finish giving a ****e about any of them, just as they cease to give a shiote about us.

There are exceptions such as Julio and SKP who at least stuck by us in hard times befroe wanting to stay playing at the highest level when we we were yo-yoing up and down the divisions. We are about to enter our 7th season in the top flight and that means no more excuses for players wanting to leave other than for more dosh.

This whole business has turned farcical. It's a shame the lad wants away to another EPL club with no European football, but club politics possibly indicate he does not appear to have been asked to stay for the Italian revolution.

Until he moves we won't know if he is number 1/2 or even 3, like most on here I can't see the point of moving to Liverpool unless he is guaranteed the number 1 spot.
Cest's first post was spot on for me, player loyalty is undermined by agents and bigger paydays, to be honest who wouldn't for more cash?
Mig apparently wants to improve his International standing for Belgium he won't do that sat on the Scousers bench and, getting the odd cup game against Tranmere won't do much for his standing either.
If he goes he goes still think they are getting him cheap at 11mil but, good luck to the lad if Reina stays then he will need it.

Remember if Reina makes it clear that he wants to leave and puts a transfer request in, he then loses him and his agent their loyalty bonus <grr>
