On reflection I think what is acceptable at a match should be acceptable on here.If someone in my vicinity at the KC voices a racially discriminatory term I will report them to let the club decide what to do.
In the past I would not have done this.Recently two men in the East Stand were made to feel very uncomfortable by someone(a big guy with mates) making comments about Blacks. The big guy was also backed up by alot of young impressionables.I never saw the two "victims" again.
Anyone thinking this is the same as a bit of banter with say Leeds fans needs a reality check.
I expect to come onto a soccer forum and be part of a fair amount of reciprocal banter and piss taking. The law has changed in relation to groups who have been on the end of negative prejudices. They do need our help to stamp out bullying.
Maybe Agro is just old fashioned and does not realise how unpleasant his "banter" has become-Bernard Manning did not get all the fuss.

Think we've been here before. "istan" means (basically) "the land of", so Kurdistan is the land of the Kurds. Afghanistan is the land of the Afghans, and Uzbekistan is the land of the Uzbeks.

Pakistan is the land of the Paki.

However as with many words (gay, cow, etc.) it has been kidnapped and used as a term of abuse. So the word itself is not abusive or racist, but the way it is routinely used is.

Inflection makes a huge difference to the way it is used, but often cannot be conveyed in writing. Which is why you can call your best friend a "Fat Bastard" and your worst enemy the same, in the same day, and the expression will have polar opposite meanings.

If it's meant to be insulting, it is, whatever words you use.

Here's an idea - why can't we read something on a internet forum without weeping into our wives knickers over a comment we don't like?

Get over it and don't let it ruin your life.

Pakistan means 'land of the pure'.

Paki is a deragatory term for someone from Pakistan.

There's no ambiguity, one is the name of a country, the other is an insult.

Exactly my point. Paki means the pure, or the clean. It is not an insult. They are Paki - ie the pure or the clean. It has been hijacked to be insulting. Thailand is the land of the smiles for example. England is the land of the Angles, but I'm not insulted, because the only people who use it as an insult are the French, and who cares about what they think?

It hasn't really been hijacked, in this country it's never been used as anything but an insult.

Not originally. Coined by Choudhary Rahmat Ali, in 1933, using it as an acronym ("thirty million Muslim brethren who live in PAKSTAN") referring to the names of the five northern regions of the Indian subcontinent: Punjab, North-West Frontier Province (Afghan Province), Kashmir, Sindh, and Baluchistan". The letter i was incorporated to ease pronunciation and form the linguistically correct and meaningful name.

I sense your inarticulacy is fuelling your keyboard rage.

PM me if you need some adult literacy course type info.

Choudhry Rahmat Ali coined the name Pakistan, he never called anyone from there a Paki.
