Mods - is the word 'chinks' really acceptable?

 

I saw that yesterday. It's one of those you laugh at but quietly cringe about.

Considering the markers and standards set down and allowed on this forum by other posters and our mods, I don't see why not.

It's the word a large proportion of Hull City fans would use as a sort or adjectival noun or catch-all adjective to describe someone or something from that country.

As far as I can determine, it's a neutral and therefore harmless term as it's a nickname.

As it's a Hull City forum, for Hull city fans, it would seem OK to use it.

(Anyone of chink/chinese ethnicity reading this, I would welcome your views. )

Its a shame that the forum here goes off topic onto things like this really, to be honest I was involved in a debate with somebody here who thought it was funny to ask me if 'I was black' because I didn't like his comments about black people, I never called him a racist as thats the reactions those kind of trolls are looking for ( they will point out in great detail why the comments are not racist and why the fault is with you for not just agreeing with whatevers written). I do have Chinese relatives though and Chink isn't OK by me, if you get a laugh from it thats up to you.

As said earlier, it's not a derogatory term and has been part of everyday speech for decades. We have 'wessies' etc -it's more of a nickname.

The laugh is at the blatant cheating -not one word in the title.

 

I don't get involved with replying to people who post that that kind of ****e usually anyway, just pointing out its a bit sad and also people trying to make jokes from it, like some people haven't moved on from the 70's

 

Why even make a thread with that in the title, but I guess Chazz answered that one pretty well
