i think arsenal's bid was widely reported this morning wasn't it? radio 5 mentioned it. obviously i have no evidence that they genuinely did make an offer - it could be paper talk! by the way, higuain, if that goes through - brilliant signing for the gooners
Absolutely. And if we're talking under-rated players I think Giroud will have a massive season next year too. With the managerial merry-go-rounds at Chelsea and Manchesters City and United, Arsenal have to win something next year.
As I've said before I think Andy C is a decent player and is certainly more than a one trick pony. He did ok at Liverpool given they hardly played to his strengths and as said above, many football folk appear to think he is a decent player. Mind you, standing behind him at Glastonbury, seeing him drinking scrumpy he didn't look much like a professional footballer, he had an air of the traveller about him.
longsight, that is the problem with him. i hope he realises how good he could be before its too late. would be a tremendous waste of his potential but he wouldn't be the first and wouldn't be the last. giroud shouldn't be at arsenal, needs to move imo.
Because you don't think he's good enough or they don't suit his style? I think he's got a lot of quality! One of the reasons Montpellier collapsed last season.
giroud's a good player but that's where it stops imo. i think he'd be perfect for everton he missed belhanda too - those two were always on the same wavelength.
Hasn't Belhanda been linked to Arsenal before though? If they got him Giroud would be worth keeping for sure.
Wow you really think so? Time will tell but I dont see it. I think people very often neglect attitude and work ethic as an attribute. Maybe as its impossible to measure and we dont see them train etc. But it is hugely important and often where "talented" players fall down.
Andy Carroll strikes me as being similar in ability to players like Paul Mariner and Mark Hateley. He is blessed with the physical attributes and skill to be a professional footballer, and just about able to creep into an international team, but I think the fact that he has been unable to engineer a move to anywhere other than a bottom half premier league club tells you that he is a long, long way from being a world class player.
He's only an international striker if you play long ball. He should thank his lucky stars he's English!!!
I sit somewhere in the middle, on his day he can be unplayable, in SA he has a manager who will build a team to play to his strengths. Is he worth 15m to me, NCFC, no probably not, but prices are on the cusp of going crazy. I can see why WHU have spent this, to build a team to stay up and build around him but it's an incredible risk as if he fails (probably through attitude not lack of raw talent)then who'd buy him or cover those wages? QPR? In summary Good player but with fair potential worth 15m not in my book, but it's the wages that I think is the biggest mistake he is nowhere near the other players commanding those sort of numbers. As good or potentially as good as Drogba? What ever your on supers I want some! in addition he may be potentially better than Crouch, but let's wait and see because crouch has performed well ( not outstanding) for a number of years and scored 1 or 2 for England! Bah!
100%. As others have said, he has obvious qualities -- power, heading ability, good shot on him. But I can't remember ever seeing him display any subtlety or do anything that tells me he is a clever player. I don't believe yesterday's stories about an Arsenal enquiry (and nor does anyone over on the Arsenal board).
would he get in the brazil side then? he'd certainly be in their squad. i think he would play - they are quite direct.
we can't know for sure if arsenal bid or not, but did you see the quotes i put up from wenger about carroll earlier in the thread? he obviously rates him highly so i wouldn't be surprised if he did launch a last-gasp bid. just cos arsenal fans don't want him doesn't mean the manager didn't.
to be fair Jo isn't doing badly! I agree that Carroll is better than Jo, and that he would be in the squad. Probably they'd only use him if Hulk was injured to keep some physicality.
Yes, I did see them, quoted in the paper. However, they are from at least a couple of years back, during Carroll's Newcastle days. I also take into account that Wenger is always polite about the opposition, and always tries to be as encouraging as he can when talking about promising young players. Has Carroll developed over the last two years? Has he matured in both his play and his behaviour? I'd say not much. Furthermore, this enquiry was supposed to be very recent, i.e. just when they were in the process of finalising a deal for Higuain? I don't think so! But as you say, we can't know for sure, and it is football after all ....... Just to add to that, if the situation had been a bit different, i.e. if it were two or three years ago, with Wenger not nearing the end of his contract and the club not under so much pressure to convert consistent top four finishes into trophies, I could imagine Wenger viewing Carroll as the kind of challenge he enjoys taking on, much along the lines of Van Persie (a talented youngster in danger of going right off the rails and wasting it all).
