http://www1.skysports.com/football/...Duncan-flattered-to-be-linked-with-Sunderland Inter Milan midfielder Alfred Duncan says that he is 'flattered' to be linked with Premier League side Sunderland. Duncan is regarded as one of Ghana's most promising young players and has been compared Chelsea's Michael Essien. A move to the Stadium of Light has been mooted this summer, and the 20-year-old claims he is aware of the reported interest from Wearside. Duncan said: "I am flattered by the interest of Sunderland. I know the scout of Sunderland has been watching me. "To be honest, though, nothing has been done and Inter will have a big say if I leave Inter or not. "Fans compare me with Essien and if I can have half of his career I will be very happy. "He is the best midfielder ever in Ghana. He played box-to-box, could break play up and could dictate play at the same time." Looks like N'Diaye's younger brother, imagine them as a centre mid pairing!
As the chase continues for Inter Milan midfielder Alfred Duncan continues, the player himself has weighed in on a potential move to Sunderland by admitting he is flattered at Sunderland's reported interest. Duncan is currently with the Ghanaian Under-20 side in Turkey preparing for the Under-20 World Cup, but took time out for the local reporters whom he told; I am flattered by the interest of Sunderland. I know the scout of Sunderland has been watching me. To be honest though, nothing has been done and Inter will have a big say if I leave or not. Which is a good indication should we ever get a bid accepted. That however seems to be a big stumbling block with Inter unwilling to part with the highly-rated midfielder. Reports earlier in the week indicated that a bid in region of 8m EUR from us have been rejected with the Nerazzuri holding out for more. Ghanasoccernet reported today that Sunderland were preparing a new bid closer to the asking price for Duncan, although news of that, if it is happening, has yet to be seen. The latest rumours suggest Inter were more keen on creating a co-ownership deal with newly promoted Sassulo. Duncan also paid tribute to Michael Essien, saying that the Chelsea midfielder is his idol and someone he models his game upon. Something which might be worth taking into account for any Sunderland fans who aren't au fait with his brief appearances for Inter, or his loan last season at Livorno. Fans compare me with Michael Essien and if I can have half of his career I will be very happy. He is the best midfielder ever in Ghana. He played box-to-box, could break play up and could dictate play at the same time. He is certainly a powerful midfielder, although comparisons to Essien may be a little off. Call me cynical, but I can't help but see this as a little bit of lip-service towards Essien, who is reportedly mulling over a return to the Ghanaian national side, ending a self-imposed exile. So there's a little bit of encouragement on Duncan. Certainly there's something there if we finally do get a bid accepted. When that comes will be anyone's guess though.
The more I read about him the more I want us to get him. Inter rate him really highly. Love box to box midfielders. Just what we need.
Normally when a player is 'flattered', past experience suggests that it wont happen! I think his words are to prompt some other team to come and buy him, without upsetting SAFC! Hedging his bets I think!
We won't get any Inter Milan, Juventus, A C Milan, or any of the top 4 clubs in either Germany, Spain, Italy or England players coming here, I have yet to see a BIG signing by Di canio and until we do sign them players we will be an average team. We get carried away each season hoping; but it never comes off.
you cant judge the window till it closes and theres a lot of time to go yet. i expect us to bring in a couple of big signings as well as some more bosmans or lower price deals. with regards to the recruitment you cant really point the finger at di canio as its more a collective thing. i have faith that the new set up will deliver results but rome wasnt built in a day and not all the guys we sign will adapt. does this mean we should sack it? i think we have tried other ways in the past and this model has worked for other teams. if you have the right guys picking the players (and not a ****ing lunatic like some) then it should work. plus it will make the club more sustainable if were getting them young and selling them on, the bin dippers always have a pot of cash there willing to throw our way so give it a chance
Football wise, you'd pick Sunderland, but ****ing hell Livorno is a beautiful, beautiful place. We'd smash them on wages like.
whoever he moves to it will surely be a loan deal. I think we need 2 more CM's especially with Alfie gone and no-one would be surprised if Catts and Vaughan follow. this lad on loan would be a canny option
if its us it would shed some light on the ndiaye deal. Why would we let him go without a replacement.
