From the manure board "Manchester United begin the defence of their Premier League title with a tough looking trip to Swansea City, in a game that will mark David Moyes' bow as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor."
Cardiff's fixture list is quite kind. If I were them, I'd be happy with that. No real cluster of the biggest teams at any point in the season. They'll breath a sigh of relief at that.
Some of the games may well be changed for broadcast reasons of course. One of the likely candidates is our first game.
All good although a difficult start it's not as if we haven't played them before , it's start nice way to celebrate the New Year with Citeh visiting, I expect there will be a few changes when we play the franchise club , 3 o'clock k o I don't think so ,
I'll be shocked if we don't get our game changed to Sunday, I'm sure Sky will what to be there for Moyes 1st game
We could be looking for our first point of the season against Palace. Those opening four games are very tough.
So Swansea were their opponents for the last home game of fergy's reign , and the first game of Moyes reign. A little bit of history there. And a pub trivia question in the making Anyway happy with the fixtures, looking forward to the start of things now.
Well I'd be lot happier with the fixture list if I could see a striker coming over the horizon! Get it sorted Jinx............
that's a potential energy and morale sapping series of opening matches with Europa matches and international breaks mixed in. exciting but very tough start indeed.
would be happy with 6 pts from the first 6 games, very tough start however as mentioned not a bad finish to the season. would love a signing or 2 though
I'm worried. We could be in a position of no points from the first 4 games if things don't start well. That could set us up for a hell of a struggle for the season as a bad start can be hard to shake off. I guess I'll feel this way until we have played Man United. Once the first game is out of the way my expectations will be more realistic. Would be nice to get 4 points from the first 4 games though. Maybe a point away at WBA and a win against Liverpool.
When we play these top teams we usually put in a good showing and then pat ourselves on the back after a close loss. If we do that at the start of this season we're going end up 4 games in with nothing on the board. We have to go at those matches like our life depends on it - play ugly if we have to - but get a result. Being pretty and ending up with nothing is going to make the next string of games even more important - and the stress piles up
Surprised the second derby is a Saturday 3pm game. I would have thought it would have been televised and also would have thought it would be an early sunday kick off to try and limit the meat-head factor
Traditionally, I thought that derby games throughout the leagues were, as far as possible, played over Bank Holidays such as Xmas and New Year etc. When was this changed?
That's implemented when Sky and the other national broadcasters along with the Premier league decide on the running order and what games are important enough for the separate slots times.
Yeah, fair enough. I did look at that, but my opinion was coloured by how bad Villa were for most of the season. That said, any month with a derby came away and Manu & Arsenal at home is going to be challenging. That said, with an opening that offers you the chance to not feel too overawed and an ending not too dominated by a) top six teams and b) the dog-fight teams, it gives you guys a chance. By the way, I know everyone's flapping about transfers here like, for some reason, the collective press think we should all follow the fine example set by QPR, but how are you guys doing on the transfer front? There were some interesting links - anything new? The free transfers made for interesting reading, certainly some eye-catching ones. I've given up geussing for us - they'll just pull some unknown out of the bag.
BT more likely as they have the biggest games, Moyes first United match will be considered as a Tier A fixture.
